recently a lot of submissions over at my site are appearing as [ - ] as the chapter text instead of the actual chapter that the member has typed so does anyone have any idea about this or has anyone else been having the same issue?

I would check the file & folder permissions, as well as the actual content of the files.

The stories folder should have chmod permissions at either 755 or 777 (depending on your host and many hosts won't all 777 anymore and if so it should work fine with 755). In an ftp it is usually select and right click, edit permissions, if you are going in through your cpanel, then there should be an option somewhere to change permissions.

Another thing to consider is the chown. The onwership of the files might have got messed up, this is a host issue and if the chmod doesnt work, then you might want to ask your host to check the chown for you and make sure they are right.

Try the chmod change first, as you can do that yourself, and then if you still have issues, talk to your host about looking at the chown.

why is nothing ever easy?

thanks, it was set to 755 which was working for ages its only recently its been doing the stuff I posted about I have temporarly set it to 777 (although I already know that lots of hosts wont allow 777 so I expect it to be changed back to 755) although it looks the same right now so I will have to talk to the hosts I think
