I recently upgraded my fanfiction site form 1.1 to 3.4.3. I encountered a (now resolved but maybe not really) problem : stories were not showing, because my members paths had not been renamed from user penname to user id. I did it manually and since then it has been possible to read the chapters ...
One of my members wrote me yesterday she couldn't add a new chapter. I tried to do so and I discovered I couldn't ever edit chapters (mine and other's) !
I have created a test account : User test Password debug (website : www.foreverhermione.com)
I know there are some other problems (with rss and design) but these are less important.

I couldn't even add a story. Try uploading the stories.php file form efiction because the page is missing half of what's needed to add a story. It stops at rating. Try seeing if the completed page shows up in one of the original skins that came with efiction 3. If it appears then you are probably missing something in your skin. Otherwise all I can think is you don't have the complete files uploaded.
