Around the 4th of February, most of the notifications on my archive decided to stop working. Members are not getting notifications for new reviews or favorite updates, "Contact author" emails don't seem to go through and notifications of new submissions aren't coming to me. Weirdly, correspondence to the admins like the archive "contact us" form and the "report" form is working.
Also I have added the mods for email notices to the admins when there's a new registration and new reviews. The new reviews notices are still coming through fine but new registrations stopped working about the same time as when notifications stopped working for everyone.
Additionally, lots of errors displaying special characters started showing up (which I talk about here). As I mention there, the collation is set to latin1_swedish_ci for some reason and I'm wondering if this is a source of both the broken notifications and special characters errors.
I'm also wondering if it's a PHP issue? According to the PHP info via the admin menu, our PHP version is 7.4.25. Maybe a minor PHP update threw things off (There were no changes made on my end). Our host also offers 8.0 and 8.1, but still recommends 7.4 FastCGI.
Any ideas on what to try?
Hi! Just checking in to see if you had any success getting to the root of this. My archive is experiencing something very similar.
@hollyda I was able to at least get notifications going again (mostly). In the Admin section I went to Settings > E-mail Settings and filled out the SMTP settings. You want to use an email address set up with your host. It got the notifications going again but then the contact us and report this forms started acting up.
In short they don't seem to like Gmail addresses. If I filled out the fields on the "contact us" page and entered a gmail address it would give me an error, but if I put any other domain it seems to go through. I decided the notifications were more important and I can put a message about not using gmail addresses for contact us in the FAQs or something.
I haven't figured out the encoding/weird character issues yet if you're also having trouble with that, but it's another small issues I can live with for now.
[I would edit to add but it's expired] Playing around with different popular domains just now Yahoo and AOL also don't wanna work. Hotmail and Outlook seem fine though ?
