This is more of a site suggestion, rather than a suggestion for the script - if it's out of place here, then please lock / delete as necessary.

I wondered if it would be possible to have a section on the forum for "general discussion / running an archive" - I know no other people who run archives, and i would be good to talk to someone about how to run an archive / some of the problems we may face etc.

If anyone knows of such a place, then please post a link.

I actually think this is a good idea for a forum--we have some threads in the news forum we could move there too. I'll try to create it sometime this week.

I think it would also be a good idea to create a forum for discussion of / suggestions for the efiction.org website.

I love this idea! I'm a member of the Admin Zone, but that doesn't really cover any of the more specific problems that come with running an archive, obviously.

Well, I  have threads where I asked people for their opinions and those are generally low-response so an entire forum might be superfluous, but I will pin a thread in the news forum. If people start making a lot of suggestions, then I can make a forum.

Do you have suggestions? If so, please PM me or post here for now: https://efiction.org/forums/index.php?topic=3777.0

Sorry,

next to the
hey jacci, you have 3 messages, 2 are new

you can get a little gif of some description, i am using the default little yellow envelope that flashes, and it will pop up next to the 2 are new and flash there if you have received a new message

then when you have read your messages, it goes away until you get more new messages.

it is fairly simply to add to you  index.template.php in your theme

Oh, I see. Well, since people can already choose whether or not to receive a pop-up when they get a new messages, this seems redundant. Plus, animated gifs are so 1998. πŸ˜‰

1994? I didn't even have a computer in 1994. Or 1998, for that matter, and I was really just (mostly) joking about animated gifs. But I really do think it's overkill. πŸ™‚ Glad you found the option. I thought it was checked by default, but I guess not...my setting probably transfered over from the old phpBB.

New suggestion (hopefully better than my last one)

would you be interested in enabling pspell ? it woudl add a spellcheck button next to post and preview, letting ppl give their post a once over before posting. I use it on my smf forums and it helps me clean up my crappy typing.

I really like the gen discussion / running an archive idea, since in my particular case I didn't really know what I was getting into. It would be nice to bounce ideas off of people who actually would have a clue what I was talking about!

ETA: Done. πŸ™‚
