Hey Sheepcontrol π
Just checking in to see if there's any update since this last status report. Thanks!

Archive: Ad Astra Star Trek Fanfiction Archive
Version: 3.5.3
Skin: One of Kali's, but I'm not sure. It's been heavily modded.
PHP: 7.4.27
MySQL: 5.7.36
Yes, yes, still moving on, the ePub generator is there, need to adjust font sizes and minor stuff like that but it produces working files already.
The admin panel is finally starting, I got stuck with going over the template system a few times to improve functionality. Added iconsets here, I think you'll like it.
Did quite some work on the admin panel, brushed up the html (making sure it mostly validates), lost password function is in.
Spamming my own topic, awesome π
Last days have seen a lot of cleaning of code, improvement on the converter (not visual, it's still ugly as crap), going for a better conversion on user settings, implemented the latest changes on the member groups to be considered in conversion.
My doctor has diagnosed a minor arthrosis under my knee caps, and as inconvenient as this may be, it gives me time to work on v5, so brace for impact.
BTW, before I spend too much time in this topic - anybody watching this at all?

I am, it may become the front of UFF, if it has enough features for me to consider replacing WordPress (with a custom plugin) as the front of my site (currently eFiction just runs the archive and the latest stories are shown on the home site via RSS).
I'm watching, Sheepy!
Thanks for all the updates and work. We really appreciate it!
I'm watching! Watching and waiting. π

I'm definitely watching all of the V5 info. Our poor site is so broken and I don't have the coding experience to fix it. I can't wait to have happy members and give my mods a break from the constant emails to fix probs π
I have this on notify on new reply. π

Hi there.
I do not own any eFiction site. I'm helping some friends that don't have technical skills to maintain their archive since I was 16 yo. Well, since the first time I saw the code, I said to myself "This software needs a complete rewrite". Well, seems that you, sheepcontrol, are on this way and I think we ALL appreciate it. I see roadmap for eFiction 5 is not so bad, the most difficult part will be writing the update script from an older version (having 2 different storage method for stories does not help), because from 1.x to 3.x there were too many fixes and fixes and fixes and fixes...
I really look forward this release, hoping it'll be more "Web 2.0" than ever. Best wishes.

Hi Francesco - I don't think there will be an update script for 1.x to 5.x. You will still need to use the old methods to upgrade from 1.x to 3.x.
If you needed support on this, feel free to jump into the relevant section on the forum and we can try to assist you π

Actually, handling the 2 different storage engines proved easier than I expected.
It will be as "Web 2.0" as it has to be, but I still am trying to maintain a high level of barrier free access and usability on devices with limited viewing capabilities.
And there will be an update script ready to go from 3.5.x to 5.x, it will/should handle some of the modifications and preserve data, but older versions are not supported.
