So,
since it's going from scratch, I was wondering which modules people feel should be included in the initial release.
They will be optional to use, obviously, but if the majority uses them, it would be convenient to at least make sure database elements get the proper love.
So hit me with the ones you feel deserve to be there from day one, maybe include a description/link.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as an add-on, but what will be the situation with integration to SMF forums? Might you also include a bridge?

Not looked at bridged, yet, but sure, once we get things somewhat stable, that might be an option.

Personally, I use the following modules at my archives:

But from the looks of it, some of these may be included automatically as part of the upgrade?

I'd really like to use the updated eFiction script as the basis for some fanfiction recommendation archives that I'm currently operating (but that I'm using Wordpress for).

Of Tammy's modules, we've got Story Tracker, Display Word, Beta-Reader List and Story End. I've also got ePubVersion.

Relevant to Banshee's query, I have another eFiction site that's all reqs. It uses the Recommendations Module and some manipulation of links / skins to remove options that people don't need to know about.

The most essential for my archive and several other large ones is the Story Tracker module. Some of us have had to disable story update notification emails because of too much volume with no way to throttle it (ie some stories are favorited by thousands of users) and thus have disabled email notifications.

A little late, but I wanted to add that along with some that have been mentioned above, I also use the Limit Description mod. I had a few people in the fandom that created outlandishly long descriptions, which made browsing a pain in the neck. Applying this mod took care of the issue, and I can't imagine doing without it to keep the fic descriptions under control.

Thanks for all the hard work!

Never too late, eF5 is a growing thing, currently RL throttles it quite some, but holidays are ahead, and considering that (1) we are not going away and (2) german weather there will be time to work on things. In other words: keep them good ideas coming πŸ™‚
Actually a good idea, but since I am too lazy to check it out myself, does it merely limit the amount of characters somebody can enter or does it hide excessive textwalls after a certain amount of words/characters?

The mod physically limits how many characters can be entered into the description area. Nice and clean. πŸ˜€

I'm so happy to see someone breathing new life into this programming. My site uses the challenge module. I think there is definite room for improvement on the old module. I would love to see this happen.

It will be improved. With start and end date for contests (its going to be a contest module, instead of challenges), tags (chars, pairings, fandoms etc.). Entries can be hidden until the contest ended ... Just to name a few changes.

Will the date fields be optional?
I only ask because I tend to use the Challenges module as more of a Plot Bunny farm. But then again, maybe I can look into modifying it down the track to have a separate plugin for Plot Bunnies...

I think we could create a separate plot bunny/kink module with open ends too. Should be easy to strip down the contest module. πŸ˜‰

I could use a contest module, especially if the winning story or stories got an icon to show they won a contest, also an icon for admin's choice would be nice while I'm on the topic.

Like what I'm seeing about this. I would love to see the challenge module, cause I love to post challenges to my fellow writers when I get an idea for a story in a category I know I'm a poor writer in.

I've got Recommendations, Beta-Reader List, Story Tracker, Story End, and Challenges in use. There are probably others that are out there and awesome, but I have such a hard time keeping up with all the different places to go as it is for updates, skins, etc. that I try to limit where I get my modules from.

Recommendation, Story tracker, Challenges are all more or less done already.
Beta reader has already been requested.

Can you explain "Story End" to me?
