Have you searched for your problem: Yes.
If so, what terms did you try: alt code, alt codes, altcode, alt code not working, special characters, b29;, symbols, text symbols, symbols screwing up, _others, num code, heart symbol, anything to that extent.
State the nature of your problem: Special character alt codes are not properly showing up on the site. However, utilizing the TinyMCE allows the use of the heart symbol otherwise that and the site won't allow any other special characters; excluding the use of some accented letters and a couple of Japanese characters. I just want to be able to allow these codes to show up on the site and I've tried following some of the advice of some threads where I add these special character codes to the allowed list of html tags but that doesn't seem to work either. Any clarity on this matter will help a lot! Thank you so much!

As an example, the reviewer Arnanee posted a couple of symbols: http://gotvg.net/reviews.php?type=ST&item=1137 (should be first review, but if not, I'll copy+pasta what she wrote). "You can make a ton of symbols like that b29; a86;a92;b34;b35;a88;▲◙○◘β’b30;b27;b24;" some of them show up but as you can see, the rest are just numbers.
Sorry this is a bit late but...it could be the page encoding.
The page is encoded as "charset=ISO-8859-1". Maybe it needs to be UTF-8 to see all the characters.

So this is on my end? I can see these alt codes fine in any other site except for mine.
It's not necessarily on your end. It's how eFiction outputs stuff. I'm really stretching my memory back a few years here, but as I recall it doesn't do Unicode, so that would probably explain your issue. Now... as for how eFiction actually handles character stuff.... yeah I'm sad to say this has always confused me. I've learned a lot more about the general topic lately, so perhaps I'll take a stab at it in a few weeks.
Thank you very much for replying back to me. π I haven't had anyone really complain about the inability to post symbols and such so I'm letting it be for now. However, if you have any solutions later on, I will be more than grateful to hear what you come up with. Good luck! π
