How do I turn on caching for efiction? My webhost suggests I do this because the script is eating up my bandwidth when ever someone accesses something on the site they end up connecting to the database.

They said it creates an image of the story rather than the database connecting to the actual file each time. Is there a way to do this?

URL to your eFiction: http://grangerenchanted.com/enchant
Version of eFiction: 3.4.3
Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: No

Have you searched for your problem: Yes
If so, what terms did you try:Cache
State the nature of your problem: No errors just a 500 internal error from too many accesses to the database at one time
Do you have a test account for us?No

The current version of eFiction does not provide caching.  The next major release v4 will have caching.

This doesn't do anything to the number of DB queries, but if it's bandwidth not database usage, you can add the following to your .htaccess file to improve your site's performance.

<FilesMatch ".(ico|pdf|flv|jpg|jpeg|png|gif|js|css|swf)$">
Header set Expires "Thu, 15 Apr 2012 20:00:00 GMT"
</FilesMatch>

<FilesMatch ".(html|htm|xml|txt|xsl)$">
Header set Cache-Control "max-age=7200, must-revalidate"
</FilesMatch>

<IfModule mod_deflate.c>
<FilesMatch "(js|css)$">
SetOutputFilter DEFLATE
</FilesMatch>
</IfModule>

Sorry to bump an old topic.... But the easiest ways to drop your MySQL load would be to have eFiction store the stories on disk instead of in the database. That will drop your MySQL usage a LOT on a large site.

Several other large archives covering the same topics as  mine use Drupal for their CMS and the biggest feature that my small archive has that they are jealous of, is the ability to store stories on disk.

Well and my ePub Version plugin, but I'm gonna port that to Drupal more than likely as the current Drupal ePub mods BLOW. πŸ™‚
