I did a search and did not find this.

I would copy the errors, but that would mean that I have to screw up my site again, and then reupload everything.

Link: http://fanfic.jarlylove.com/admin.php?action=versioncheck (In the event that you can some how access that link, please don't click it and risk screwing up my site again).

I accidentally pressed version check, and it lead me to a never-ending page of errors. I didn't think to copy them because when I hit the back button, I realized that my site would no longer load.

Since I didn't have a backup of my database before I upgraded to 3.1.1, I had to reupload my files--basically everything, I tried just the admin files, but that didn't work, so I had to keep going until my site would load again, and then re-import my database, and re-upgrade my site.

Version check does not access your database at all, so I'd say there's something else going on on your site, or I'm just not understanding what happened as you describe it.

All version check does is check a file on our site to see if you are up-to-date. I'd almost say you're going to have to click on it again to let us know what errors your getting so we can figure out what's going on.

If that's the case, I think I'll just let it stay. I am not about to reupload everything again. Even though I have made a second backup of my database.

Are you using the latest that was released earlier today (or perhaps yesterday for you)? There seemed to have been some problems with the admin functions that were fixed. I don't know if this was one of them but I just installed 3.1.1 in order to get it ready for the new site, and version check did not cause me any problems. (If you did get an error, it's most likely telling you that your host does not allow php scripts to access files on other sites which is the way version check works...)

i had no problem running the update just now, and the version check is fine.

I will confirm this. It creates an infinite loop, locked up firefox and when i forced it closed, ubuntu edgy eft did not recover well. i had to force the system off and turn it back on to fix it.

what i could grab

It did it to me again, i killed it faster so no residual damage like before. *Warning* this link might lock your system up, have nothing running and files saved.

I've tried it on all 3 of my archives, and I have the same issue.

Skins made by Kali are no longer supported!

Did mine mess up your browser? I'm wondering if you need admin priv.

It is not a script issue.  It's an issue with your server configuration.  There's nothing we can do.  Just disable the version check panel.

Site URL: http://fictionally-yours.com
(Tammy since you have an admin account there already, you should be able to see what I'm seeing)

Warning: fopen() [function.fopen]: URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in /home/user/site/admin/versioncheck.php on line 9

My host currently has URL file-access disabled in the server configuration, and I know there is a way to circumvent it (according to this) in eFiction so that various things such as Version Check will not work for me, though I'm afraid of tampering with any of the coding. Though version check is the only thing that I have stumbled upon so far that is affected by this. Other people using DreamHost have probably experienced this also, so this would help them as well.

Thanks in advance,
Becca

There isn't any way to get it to work on your server if your host doesn't allow you to open files on a remote server. Those codes you linked to will only work on your server.

It says so right here:

Instead, the file must be included with a local path...

Actually, I think I have fixed it, but I need someone who has gotten errors on version check to test it.

I'm pretty sure I have figured out a way around this, but I need testers to make sure.

allow_url_fopen is enabled on my site, so I can't test it there.

I posted something about this the other day, and I'm sure you're experiencing what I'm experiencing, and as Tammy said, it's an issue with server configuration. If your webhost is dreamhost, then you may want to look at these dreamhost wiki articles:
http://wiki.dreamhost.com/index.php/URL_file-access_is_disabled_in_the_server_configuration
http://wiki.dreamhost.com/index.php/Allow_url_fopen

Also Carissa, I'd like to test it πŸ™‚

I got that error on mine. It didn't cause any harm that I know of to the site. It just kept going till I stopped it. Is there a way to avoid this? Other than just not clicking it?
