A lot of the requests I see for eFiction features could be better served as add-ons to eFiction, rather than fully integrated features that the core developers have to maintain. If there was an API of functions and hooks that could be used by other developers, it would not only open up eFiction to a new and exciting realm of possibilities, but it would also alleviate the amount of work a core developer had to implement and maintain and improve and support.
It's something I am looking into, however, since currently the frame itself is subject to constant to change, an API would be broken by the end of each day.
One of the initiel modules will be built as an external module, and this will then introduce an API.
