You'll break it doing that.  It checks for the _ADDSTORY value when the story is submitted.

Your stats table is probably empty.  You need to insert a line in it with your sitekey in the sitekey field.  You should be able to do that ...

You may need to CHOWN (or have your host do it) the stories folder and the folders inside it to "nobody" or whatever apache is running on.
