Where are you trying to start from?  You were on step 3 so that's where I'd start over at and just fill in the settings as you go from ...

Open the upgrade20.php file and go to line 856 and change "strrchar" to "strrchr" (Take the "a" out) in 2 places.

It's a typo in the script.  On line 45 of viewstory.php change the word "loggedin" to "$loggedin".  Add a $.

You need to turn maintenance mode off or supply a test account with admin privileges (level 3 is enough to let me see the site).
