My stories get saved in DB even after I changed it to server/folder.

Do I have to do anything in the server to make it save there?

I just installed eFiction and during the beginning I placed it as DB then I changed it later in my admin panel.

Thanks for the support.

Are you talking about the text of your chapters or the stories themselves?  You only have the option of storing the chapter text in files.  Everything else will always be saved in the database and that's the way you want it.  Also NEVER change how you store texts after you've started.  The script will look one place or the other not both.  So if you've changed from DB to files all the chapters texts in the DB can't be displayed.

It's alright, I think I got it.

I told it to save it in /stories and then I added my story, now it works fine πŸ™‚

Thanks,

I just wish eFiction had better themes.

PS: I told it to save in /stories, the sscript made another file I think, now it's saving in /stories/1, after I added my story, it saved it as /stories/1/6.txt

Will the script ever repeat the same letter name? Is it going up by numbers or is it just handing out random numbers?

The 1 is the author's user id.  The 6 is the chapter number.  The themes provided are deliberately basic to make them easy for people unfamiliar with themes to personalize.  Check the themes forum for other themes.

It was chapter 1, why did they put 6?

Anyway, I meant all the themes(I used eFiction before) feel un-unique and "boring". I'm not a theme person so, I know I shouldn't be saying these things.

You had submitted chapters before that one.

Oh, okay. Thanks.

eFiction is the only free script of it's kind, I hope you guys do better work on it. Maybe in the future you could give out the script for free but charge for custom modules, etc.

There are other scripts out there that do what eFiction does.  If you don't like eFiction (and you're complaining enough about something you're getting for FREE) go find something else.

Not to mention people are perfectly free to pay someone to make them a custom module or theme if they don't like the free defaults.

Skins made by Kali are no longer supported!

Not to mention, either, that the people offering support are also doing it for free.

When you don't know much about something you're criticizing, then the best policy is usually to say nothing at all.

lol, i think you understood me wrong.

I hope you guys do better work on it

I meant I hope you guys make 4.0 better then 3.0 and maybe change the theme layout a bit. This is just a suggestion, not a demand.

I know you guys work for free and I thank you for that (not enough, I know). What I meant was maybe you guys could do what Sony and Microsoft does, even SMF. Give out the script for free but make a site containing premium blocks and modules. I think that would be a good way to raise money for this project and maybe money for your pockets too, I know if I see a great module like a dictionary add on, I would pay for it and I am sure many other people would too.

I am working on a dictionary module by the way.

Maybe this belongs in the suggestions board.

@kali : Found one of your themes, love it. If my site gets enough members and users, I am sure I will pay for a custom theme πŸ™‚

Once again, sorry for the misunderstanding. I take back my theme comment.

I dislike the idea of creating a two-tier script... The target audience of eFic isn't exactly bustling with money, either. (Or they are, just not willing to invest much into this; as one might in SMF or IB which can target many sites and people such as businesses/companies etc.) Like Kali said, you can pay people to customise your install or customise your themes. I prefer that route rather than "this is the free version" and "this is the premium version".

What do you mean by dictionary module anyway? o.O There are some browsers which will do it for you for free...
