URL to your eFiction: http://crazyquills.x10.mx/
Version of eFiction: v.3.5.3
Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: Yes, with SMF 1.1.16
Version of PHP: n/a
Version of MySQL: n/a
Have you searched for your problem: yes, only one I found was unanswered. :/
If so, what terms did you try: "validate".
State the nature of your problem: My chapters are not being automatically validated when posted, even though the settings are saying I should be able to post without approval.
Do you have a test account for us? no, but I can set one up.

Under Settings > Submission Settings, what do you have the following two options set to?

Turn off unsolicited submissions
Automatically validate all stories

no and yes, respectfully. They are set up in such a way that I should be be allowed to submit them without validating them.

Can you confirm they are set correctly in the database? I'm not able to reproduce this problem. I wonder if it might have to do with the bridge.

Yes, they are.

I have since unbridged it, as I don't think I'll need the forums. However, I'm noticing when I go to add a new story, there is an option to validate the story which was set to no, that I did not previously see. Is that for everyone, or just staff? Can I turn it off so its automatic?

The story validation feature is for admins only. As far as I know there is no way to make it automatic. I can't think of what might be causing it, except possibly failing the validuser checks. How is it behaving since you unbridged it? I've never seen that done. Does your site have a lot of members?

I made a testing account and it appears to be fixed now. :/ I think it must have been something with the bridge, or perhaps with admin options, I'm not sure. Thanks for your time.

Yeah, I'd guess it's the bridge. The code was basically trying to determine if the user was valid as a part of the autoapproval process. I wasn't able to track down what it takes to consider a user 'valid' but it's possible that was the part that was failing and it was due to the bridge (since eFic's user table is replaced by the one from SMF). I don't really know anything about bridging so I can't offer possible solutions there.  :
