Version: 3.5.1
Problem: Story text not showing
Site: http://www.moonlesswinter.info/read/index.php

I've come across a problem and I'm not sure what to do about it. When someone adds a new story and they need it validated when it shows up in the validation queue the story text isn't there. Everything else is but not the story text. I've tried to see if copying and pasting the story text is what made the writing disappear, but that doesn't seem top be the problem.

I'm not sure what to do as this is getting very frustrating. Can I please get some help?

And is this a new archive or a new problem in an existing archive?

If it's a new archive then the most likely problem is you haven't gotten the storage of text files set up right.  You probably chose to store the chapter texts in files, but didn't set up the folder to store those files in.  See the installation instructions.  Either the folder doesn't exist or it isn't CHMOD'd to 777.

I'm guessing under Admin > Settings > Submissions Settings you have "Stories saved in" set to files. It sounds like what happened when we moved hosts and the server was requiring different CHMOD levels for the files than eFiction creates them at. Make sure the folder for your stories is created and that it matches what is set in "stories path." Also make sure that it's CHMODed to 755, and if that doesn't work, 777.

If you're saving to database, then I'm not sure what the problem would be. I've never really used that method. :

Then why do the story notes save fine?

And where are the installation instructions....?

Doing this just made it worse... O.O

I got this message after changing the file to 777.

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@moonlesswinter.info and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

The story notes would save correctly because those are stored in the database. You have the option of storing the story text (only that which goes into the story text box) in either the database or in files. Files are usually recommended if you think the site will be large or get a lot of traffic, but sometimes due to server configurations you have to save the text in the database.

I'm having a little trouble following your answers. This is what we need to know.

Is your site configured to save story text to files or the database.

If you answered files, what is the file path specified in admin > settings > submission settings

What is the name of the folder where you want to save the files.

And told folder is called "read" located at path, /public_html/read/read Should the path be set up differently?

What do you have as the path in the settings? Because your site's root appears to be public_html/read, the path in the settings should be only read.

https://efiction.org/wiki/index.php5?title=Safe-Mode

Check that, perhaps?

It seems like there's nothing IN your stories folder; safe-mode would affect that.

It's not on safe mode.
