Is there any way (even crudely) of disabling new registrations in v 3x?

I know there is a thread on it in v2 at https://efiction.org/forums/index.php?topic=3660.0  but the mentioned code doesn't appear to be in user.php for 3.5.3. We're currently getting the data into the site and don't want people to be sticking their feet in until the old stuff is fully in situ.

Can't use the maintenance message as it precludes the transparency we'd like with soft-launching the new archive.

Open user/register.php and comment out line 27

// include("user/editbio.php");

When you go to the registration page, the form won't show up.

This is an extremely crude way of doing it. I'm sure somebody else could tell you a better way to do it. I'm new enough to PHP, so I'd hesitate to try to edit the user/editbio.php page myself.

Alternatively, you could just remove the login link from the menubar and turn off unsolicited submissions, so that only admins could login and submit stories. You could turn off reviews and favourites too, temporarily.

I hope this helps!

In the end we just went with clamping down submissions and threatening a spanking πŸ™‚

Thanks anyway! *tucks it away for future use*
