URL to your eFiction: http://www.yourfanfiction.com/
Version of eFiction: 3.5.3
Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: no
Version of PHP: PHP 5.2.16
Version of MySQL: 5.1.52
Have you searched for your problem: yes
If so, what terms did you try: category order, subcategories out of order
Test Account: U/N: Test P/W: admin123
State the nature of your problem: I'm having a problem with the order of my sub-categories (and my categories but I sorted that out). My website is yourfanfiction.com and I've tried looking here to see if there was already a solution, but I can't find one. I've tried placing my sub-categories so that they're in alphabetical order, but for some reason, they keep jumping out of order, with certain subcategories jumping to the top of the list. My biggest problem is my Anime_Manga Crossovers/Inuyasha section. not only do the top ten categories refuse to be ordered, but each of them shows only a move down arrow instead of move down and move up (even if they aren't the top category). I've tried clicking the fix category order button, and it isn't working.

Also, is there anything that can be done to automatically alphabetize my categories/sub-categories, please? It seems to be a bit of a pain to be trying to do it manually...

An update to this - all of my categories are going crazy now. I'm trying to reorder them into the order I want, but they're jumping around all over the place. interestingly enough, I'm trying to alphabetize them and I've noticed that it only seems to be the top 15-20 entries that are switching around (depending on the category, that's up to about the letter g).

Any help on this subject asap would be fantastic, please πŸ™‚

How about a link to your site?

I've never had this sort of prob myself. But I do use efiction for years now and I have re-orderd my categories from time to time.
Sounds  a bit strange. And I think it would help possibly if you give us the link to your archive...

Oops - sorry, I did include the address in the top, but I didn't do a proper link. Guess that would help, huh lol? It's www.yourfanfiction.com. I've seen other people create test accounts to be played with - would it be useful for me to do that?

Please fill out the Support Request Template. (See the stickied posts at the top of each board.) Also, what browsers are you using? It could be a Javascript issue.

Sorry about that - I've added all of the necessary information onto my original post and I'm using Google Chrome πŸ™‚

Can you provide a working admin test account? Otherwise I can't see the problem. You can PM me if you like.

Hi,

This is still an issue. I sent a PM but haven't had a response yet and as the website grows, the number of categories is quickly growing and making it more difficult to reorder them. If anyone can help with this, I'd be so grateful πŸ™‚

Just to let everyone know that I've fixed this now. I don't know what made it go wrong in the first place, but what I ended up doing is going into my database tables and physically typing in the order that I wanted for each category. For some reason, it seemed that a lot of the categories were being numbered 14 in the order (and with more than one saying 14 they all got stuck and mixed around). I don't know how to stop it happening again, but at least I know how to fix it now πŸ™‚
