URL to your eFiction: www.plumedargent.com/fiction.php
Version of eFiction: 3.2.1
Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: I don't understand this question so I suppose I don't.
Version of PHP: 3.2.4
Version of MySQL: 4.1.22
Have you searched for your problem: Yes
If so, what terms did you try: Update chapter and Wiki
State the nature of your problem: Notice: Undefined variable: story in /xxxx/xxxxx/public_html/stories.php on line 409

Warning: fopen(stories/286/2994.txt) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /xxxx/xxxxx/public_html/stories.php on line 447

Do you have a test account for us? No

Hi,
I need your help today. Since a couple of weeks, all of my members  cannot update their chapters. Each time, they receive this message :
Notice: Undefined variable: story in /xxxxx/xxxxx/public_html/stories.php on line 409

Warning: fopen(stories/286/2994.txt) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /xxxxx/xxxxx/public_html/stories.php on line 447

I am a little bit surprised because I didn't change anything on my script since one year and more… I don't understand why that doesn't work now. Maybe someone could help me, please ?

Thank you for your help.

Looks like a file permissions problem. You should be able to find other threads were people have had this same type of thing happen (including me, after I switched hosts). Ensure that you have the site set properly for where stories are saved. If they're in the database, make sure it's not set to stories. If you're saving them to a folder make sure that's set (which it seems to be now). Since it sounds like it happened suddenly, it's probably something to do with a setting your host changed on their end, but make sure that all the folders & stories in your stories folder are CHMODed properly. I believe folders should be 755 & stories 644. What happened for me was that some older stories were set to the wrong thing, which worked fine on one host but not on the new.

Finally I made a new research  with these terms " permissions problem " and I found this tread:

https://efiction.org/forums/index.php?topic=7336.msg39640#msg39640

It look like exactly as my situation. A CHOWN problem...

I am going to contact my host.

Thank you for all.
