Do you have a test account for us?Could set one up if needed, but really just asking a question...
Someone had a 21 chapter story uploaded to the site and accidentally deleted the whole thing.
The only good news is that I had backed up the database just a couple days prior to when she deleted it and all chapter text is stored in the databse.
I know it's not a feature of efiction so this is not a bug report, etc, but just seeing if anyone has any advice on how one might be able to restore just a single story from a backup (I have phpmyadmin access, etc).
Anyone know which tables I would need to INSERT rows back into? (I do have a test site where I would definitely make the attempt to restore before touching a live site, but...just curious if anyone has any advice on attempting to do this, or should I pretty much tell her "Sorry, you're out of luck"?
I did this for a story that had like 92 chapters, hundreds of reviews, favorites, etc that an admin accidentally deleted (at least it was her own). If you search, you'll find posts where this has come up before.
Don't have a lot of time, but what I did was I uploaded my site backup to my test site so that I could export what I needed without having to change any names or anything. Then you find the story ID and the entry in fanfiction_stories, export that, then import it into the live database. PHPMyAdmin was really handy for this. Then you need to find all the corresponding chapters in fanfiction_chapters (there is an sid field which is the id to the story it belongs to). You're good there if you have text saved to the database, but if it's in files, then you'll have to find all the files in the folder for the author's UID. Same deal with fanfiction_reviews - they include the chapid, so you'll have to know those for each chapter. If you want to re-add favorites, there's that to do as well.
I am probably missing something (story tracker mod? ratings?), but basically it would be more of the same.
EDIT: I did a search on "restore story" and got a bunch of hits. Probably the best is this one: https://efiction.org/forums/index.php?topic=5123.0
Thanks so much!
