Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: No
Version of PHP: 5.4.25
Version of MySQL: 5.6.13
Have you searched for your problem: Yes
If so, what terms did you try: fatal error story submit, story not posting, characters not show*
State the nature of your problem:
1) The first error I'm getting is that characters are not showing for the categories when posting a new story, even though characters have been already added. I did find this thread: http://forums.efiction.org/index.php?topic=3053.msg16942#msg16942 But I'm a noob and I have no clue what "re-generate formselect.js" means or how to do it, and I can't find the information for that. Sorry.
2) When I try to add a new story (with myself as author), I encounter a fatal MySQL error:
Query: SELECT author.penname as penname, co.uid FROM fanfiction_coauthors AS co LEFT JOIN fanfiction_authors as author ON co.uid = author.uid WHERE co.sid = '3'
Error: ()
A similar message appears when I go into Manage Stories:
Query: SELECT stories.sid, title, reviews, rating, completed, validated, featured, count FROM fanfiction_stories AS stories LEFT JOIN fanfiction_coauthors AS coauth ON stories.sid = coauth.sid WHERE stories.uid = '1' OR coauth.uid = '1' ORDER BY title
Error: ()
No stories in the Submission queue either. However, when I go to Browse > Titles, the story shows up with ONLY the Title field filled - no author, no story information, no story text, nothing else. Here's a link for example: http://condwiramurs.byethost13.com/eFiction353/browse.php?type=titles
How do I resolve these please? I've already reinstalled the entire archive twice and I can't figure out what's causing the problem.
Do you have a test account for us? Yes. username test, password testing
Thank you,

I read further RE the characters issue. However, I can't find the formselect.js file anywhere in the efiction directory or any subdirectory on my server, and there is no re-generate link on the bottom of the Catagories page as described in the FAQs.
It looks like something went wrong during the install. Version 3.5.3 has been throwing up some strange errors this last year.
Try downloading and installing Version 3.5.5 ( https://efiction.org/?page=downloads) and seeing how you go?
eFiction Archives:
I'll try that; thanks.
All right, installing 355 has fixed most errors and stories are now submitting fine.
Characters still don't show up in the initial submission process (selecting a category to add gives a 403 Error message, but the category itself is added ok), and the re-generate button is still missing from the Categories admin page, but they can be added by editing the story once submitted.
It would be nice to figure out how to have them show up during the initial process, but I can at least work with this for now. Thanks.
