What do you mean?  You click on the link in the download page and choose "Save".

I'm actually having problems with the download.

1. I don't understand how to get the stories file. Do I just create a folder named stories or is it already included in the download?

2. Where's the root directory of my download? I don't understand. I'm using file zilla and I'm not sure I put my config.php file in the right spot.

3. How do I get my download under public_html? I've tried time and again but it doesn't work. When I connect to my FTP server on file zilla the only possible directories I can put my download into is /:
I keep unistalling it and redoing it hoping it will work but no luck. I believe I may have missed up one of my servers because when I go to the file management of my cpanel, it won't let me edit anything in my files.

I can provide the link to my site I'm attempting to install it on if it's needed. I really need help because if I do not upload a index page to my site is a couple of days, my webhost will delete my site πŸ™

1. Yes you create the stories folder (although for security you may want to name it something else and make sure once all the files are uploaded that you remember to change that stories to the other name you may have named it. But for now since you are new at this you should just keep it as "stories").

2. This all depends on your webhost. (Where I'm hosted I can't get to the root level, when I ftp in I only see the public_html folder and my files are stored there)

3. See above.

Just curious who is your webhost? Maybe you can ask them to help you with the install. Most webhost sites will help you.

But where do I stick the folder? Do I put it in the main efiction folder? My file manager started working again (yes!). I noticed that the reason I couldn't edit anything was because the files were still loading and updating. the only root level I can see is / so I'm guessing I have no choice but to put files there.

My webhost made it clear when I signed up that they don't offer support. Thou they didn't actually say this, I can't find a e-mail to e-mail them for support.

IDK if my webhost supports efiction, I'm going to try it with another host to see if it works with that one.

All webhost put a marker index.html (or index.php) file for accounts. I will get overwritten by the efiction files you put there. If you see that elusive index.html (the one that says to anyone visting your website that a site i coming soon) then that is where you put your files. If you are not planning to have another index then you move all the files out of the unzipped efiction page to your / location. That way when you go to http://www.yourwebpage.com efiction (once you run the http://www.yourwebpage.com/install) will be your home page. If you want the url to be http://www.yourwebpage.com/efiction353 to be where your efiction there, then you put aour files to / including the efiction353 folder.

As for the question of where to put the stories folder, it goes in the same directory you have your efiction files.

Most webhosts may not know what efiction is, but my webhost has always been willing to help me out if I have problems with the script (which isn't very often). They usually have a contact us button and will create a work ticket if you have a question. They won't install it for you, but they can look at your site and make suggestions. I've asked my hosts about other scripts that weren't efiction. I should state my guys were helpful when I was using their free service and when I was using their pay service.

First of all, my website never came with a index.php file. When I first went to my fpt server, there was no index file. The only file which came with my site was a fpt_quota file which I have no idea what it does. I deleted by accident anyway so, IDK, I guess it didn't do anything. But even before I deleted it my download wasn't working. I can't go to mysite.com/install because whenever I do go, it leads me to a error page for my webhost. I've tried this on two webhosts, Zymric, and 0000free. On both, my download doesn't work. I'm begining to think maybe I should just give up.  The Zymric site (which is the second host I tried) had a index.php file but I deleted by mistake. The 0000free site is the site that never came with the index file and is the first webhost I tried. I started to get stressed that the download isn't working.

What webhost do you use? I'm fine paying if it's nessesary but I want to make sure I can download the software.

What's wrong with my download? I'm really desprate now, I'm actually willing to pay somone to install the software. Is it a problem with the way I'm adding it to my server or is it just the download it's self doesn't work.

Could you also tell me how you downloaded it and what fpt client you used?

And when you said "If you are not planning to have another index then you move all the files out of the unzipped efiction page to your / location. That way when you go to http://www.yourwebpage.com efiction (once you run the http://www.yourwebpage.com/install) will be your home page." are you saying I should take the files out the efiction folder?

Okay, I want to make sure you understand what you're supposed to be doing because you keep using the word download for when you're supposed to upload.

You download the files from this site.  Then you upload them to your host.  Two steps here!  You need to get the files from this site and put the files on your web host's computer.

I know this and when I say download I mean upload. It's the fact that the upload isn't working. When every I go to mysite.com/install/efiction It takes me to an error page for my webhost. Did you read what i posted before? I already did this! It's not uploading correctly. I understand how to do everything fine, but the upload ust isn't working. πŸ˜₯

Well it should be mysite.com/efiction/install/.  And whether or not the efiction should be included would depend on how you uploaded the files.  You did unzip the download right?

right

Do I just upload the whole efiction folder to my server or do I need to upload the files one by one?  I'm using file zilla.....

Tammy, instead of telling me "And whether or not the efiction should be included would depend on how you uploaded the files" could you just tell me how it should look and give me a picture or something. I find it unhelpful when you say things that, basicly, I already know.

I find it stupid that your saying things like "It depends on how you install efiction" when you could just tell me. It's wasting both of our time. I would be out of your hair by now if you just gave me a straight answer that didn't lead to more questions.

How should it look? Should I just upload the enitre efiction folder or should I upload each file one by one?

πŸ™‚ please do not give me an answer like "you just upload the files" or something.

Celestial,

Please don't be cranky here. The answer it depends on how you want it to look is a valid one.

If you want your website to be http://www.yourwebsite.com/efiction (then unzip the efiiction folder and move that entire folder using filezilla)

If you want your website to be http://www.yourwebsite.com and have the efiction appear there (you unzip the efiction folder then move the individual files using filezilla.

I use filezilla and will tell you to pay close attention as you upload the files because filezilla sometimes times out and not all the fills will be moved. Especially when uploading a large group of files like you will when uploading efiction files.

After doing that then go to your website at yourwebsite.com/efiction/install (if you chose the first suggestion) or yourwebsite.com/install if you chose the latter.

I understand you may be frustrated, but you are asking what should be a basic question and anyone who has ever worked with websites should understand. Installing a script is not for the faint of heart.
