Does anyone know how/where to paste a bit of code that would make someone enter a CAPTCHA verification before being able to submit a review? We have these on registration and in the "contact us" forms, so I'd love to add this to the review section...

It's not what you were after but I've got to say, after installing "Bad Behaviour" on my site, I not only don't have any spam reviews, I don't have any new spam accounts.
It's pretty easy to install. On my site at the moment "Bad Behaviour has blocked 191 access attempts in the last 7 days." (but there have been genuine new members, so it's not blocking everything).
