URL to your eFiction: http://pt-fics.sm-portugal.com
Version of eFiction: 3.5.3
Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: No
Version of PHP:  5.3.10
Version of MySQL: 5.1
Have you searched for your problem: Yes
If so, what terms did you try: categories, sub categories, co author, processing error
State the nature of your problem:

Hi guys. I've searched these problems on the forum and got several relevant threads, but none of the solutions offered resolved my problem

1. When adding a story I'm unable to select sub-categories. I've tried to upload files from SVN but nothing changed.
Also, the number count on the categories page is negative! (I have -2 stories on the"Original" category) for example.

2. I'm unable to select Co-Authors. I write the name but nothing happens then (that small list with the correspondent authors names doesn't appear)

I read that the permitions of the includes folder might be the cause of this problem, so I've setted them to 777

Now I get the 500 -- Error processing request both in the Co-Authors field and in the Categories (all of this in the Add Story form). If I set the permitions to 555 this error doesn't pop up but I still can't select sub-categories or co-authors.

I've setted up a test acount (Test - password: 12345) at http://pt-fics.sm-portugal.com/stories.php?action=newstory
The website is partially in portuguese but it's pretty straightfoward.

Thanks

Any ideas?

Thanks!

The test account you listed doesn't seem to let you create a new story. Have you elevated the account to that of one that can post a story?

Yes it can, just have to click the "Adicionar história" in the left menu once you're logged in =)

Okay. I clicked that and it was a stylized page with no place to add or type anything. Maybe because I was using Firefox? I'll try on another browser.

Yes, this page does not work in firefox but in Chrome (and IE) I could get there. It seems like you are missing something in the co-author field, javascript maybe. What is suppose to happen in the search box you start typing the first few letters of the person you want to co-author and a popup window appears with a list of names and you choose one. Try re-uploading the javascript.js and userselect.js that are in the Includes folder. I don't know if it will work but it's worth a shot.

Good luck!

It was a small bug, it's fixed now 😉 Thanks for the heads up

I replaced the entire Includes just to try and see what happened --> nothing changed. I really wanted the website to work as you can imagine =/
Any other ideas?
Help? x)

I just made a clean install of efiction 3.5.3 in two different servers - had the same problem with the categories and co-authors in both of them.
Is it possible that the problem is from the source code?!

I still think the issue is with userselect.js. You might try downloading a copy for the svn archive. (Which is where Tammy and the others would update some of the files before bundling them up as an update).

Nope, as I said, the clean install didn't resolve the issue - anyway I downloaded the .js files from de svn and the errors remain.
Using chrome's Developer Tools (resources tab) I get errors from Stories.php but I can't figure this out =/

Well almost 2 months after asking for help and with only one person willing to help (many thanks to babaca) I'm uninstalling efiction and try to adapt wordpress or drupal to work in a similar way.
Its a pity that the support forum isn't helping users with these issues.
