Site:  http://www.destinysgateway.com
Efiction Version:  3.5.3

Hi,

I just decided to add in characters to all the Fandoms on my site (Huge job), but the Characters added do now show up in the submissions form.  I then tried to add the Character to the top site level and it did appeared on the submissions form.  Is there some way to make it appear just for the sub-categories?

For example, my site is set up like so:

Category:  TV Series > American Gothic > Lucas And Gail

I would like to add in Characters to the index under Lucas and Gail, which I assume is the purpose of having this option? (See example index pic for that Category)  Am I not doing something right?

Also, I wondered if there is a way to change the Genres classification to be called Tags instead?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Princess Destiny

Uhm ... well, what does your listings.tpl look like?
Is there a placeholder for characters at all? When I look at your first screenshot I can't see one.

Please check your listings.tpl and storyindex.tpl and search for

<b>Characters:</b> {characters}

If it's not there, add it.

From what I see you haven't really selected a sub-category yet. If you have selected a category it should move from the left window to the right. After that the characters of a certain sub-category should appear within the characters window.

But without the proper .tpl it will never show up on your story list.

Oh and as for your question about renaming Genre to Tags. Yes you can change that. Just check your classifications at your adminpanel.

Shouldn't Characters show up the second I select TV Series > American Gothic > Lucas And Gail?  If I add the Characters under Sitewide, they show immediately in that submission form under the pane.  But I did as you suggested and selected Lucas And Gail and still no Characters appeared.

I'll be adding Characters to the listings.tpl, but it's no good if I can't even see the Characters that I added to the Submissions Form.

Thanks for the tip on changing the Genre to Tag. I did change it, but the field vanished then on the index.  Oh dear, I need to change that on the listings.tpl and storyindex.tpl, don't I?  Thanks, I wasn't thinking clearly about that one. 🙂

This is my listings.tpl  I'm not sure if I even added characters correctly, to be honest.

<!-- START BLOCK : listings -->
<div class='cleaner' style='clear:both;'>&nbsp;</div>
{seriesheader}
<!-- START BLOCK : seriesblock -->
<div class="listbox {oddeven} clearfix">
<div class="title">{title} by {author} {new} {score} [{reviews} - {numreviews}] </div>
<div class="storinfo"><span class="label">Summary: </span>{summary}<br />
<span class="label">Categories:</span> {category} <span class="label">Characters: </span>{characters}<br>
{classifications}
<span class="label">Challenges:</span> {challengelinks}<br /><span class="label">Open:</span> {open}
{comment}<br />{adminoptions}</div>
</div><br /><br />
<!-- END BLOCK : seriesblock -->

<!-- START BLOCK : storyblock -->
<div class="listbox {oddeven} clearfix">

You are right, once you have selected a category the characters should appear right away in the characters window.
That is very strange. Never had that prob before. Since I'm no admin at your archive I can't have a real close look at it.

Well, characters are twice listed at your listings.tpl and not once at your storyindex.tpl

This is how mine look

listings.tpl

<!-- START BLOCK : listings -->
{seriesheader}<br />
<!-- START BLOCK : seriesblock -->
<div class="listbox {oddeven}  clearfix">
<h2>{title} {new} von {author}</h2>
<b>Eingestuft:</b> [{reviews} - {numreviews}] {score}<br />
<div class="storinfo">
<b>Inhalt:</b> {summary}<br />
<b>Kategorien:</b> {category}<br />
<b>Charaktere:</b> {characters}<br />
{classifications}
<b>Offen:</b> {open} {comment}<br />{adminoptions}
</div></div>
<!-- END BLOCK : seriesblock -->

{stories}<br />
<!-- START BLOCK : storyblock -->
<div class="listbox {oddeven} clearfix">
<h2>{title} {new} von {author}</h2>
<b>Eingestuft:</b> {rating} [{reviews} - {numreviews}] {score} {featuredstory} {roundrobin}<br />
<div class="storinfo">
<b>Inhalt:</b> {summary}<br />
<b>Kategorien:</b> {category}<br />
<b>Charaktere:</b> {characters}<br />
{classifications}
<b>Serie:</b> {serieslinks}<br />
<b>Veröffentlicht:</b> </b>{published} | <b>Aktualisiert:</b> {updated} | <b>Kapitel:</b> {numchapters} | <b>Fertig:</b> {completed} | <b>Wörter:</b> {wordcount} | <b>Hits</b>: {count}<br />

{comment}<br />{adminlinks}<br />
<div align="center">{addtofaves} {reportthis}</div>
</div></div>
<!-- END BLOCK : storyblock -->
{pagelinks}
<!-- END BLOCK : listings -->

storyindex.tpl

<!-- INCLUDE BLOCK : header -->
<div class="gb-full">
<h1>{title} von {author}</h1>
<div align="right">{printicon}</div>
<div id="output">
<div class="jumpmenu">{jumpmenu}</div>
<div class="listbox">
<b>Eingestuft:</b> {rating} [{reviews} - {numreviews}] {score} {featuredstory}<br />
<b>Inhalt:</b> {summary}<br />
<b>Kategorie:</b> {category}<br />
<b>Charaktere:</b> {characters}<br />
{classifications}
<b>Herausforderung:</b> {challengelinks}<br /> <b>Serie:</b> {serieslinks}<br />
<b>Kapitel: </b> {numchapters} <b>Abgeschlossen:</b> {completed} <br />
<b>Wörter:</b> {wordcount} <b>Gelesen:</b> {count}<br />
<b>Veröffentlicht:</b> {published} <b>Aktualisiert:</b> {updated}
</div>
{adminlinks}<br />
<div align="center">{addtofaves}</div>
</div>

<br /><br />

<!-- START BLOCK : storynotes -->
<blockquote><i><b>Story Anmerkungen:</b></i> {storynotes}</blockquote>
<!-- END BLOCK : storynotes -->
<br /><br />

<!-- START BLOCK : storyindexblock -->

I'd be really happy to make you an Admin on my site? I've had so many requests to add the characters and I finally have some time off of work to do so, but it's not working.

I think I know what the prob is.

Characters that are under locked categories (i.e.) tv shows don't show up.

I just added to test characters. One within a locked category and one sidewide. The sidewide char was there, the other one not.

You can now revoke my status as admin.

Hi,

Thank you for taking a look. Yes, sitewide adds with no problem.  I unlocked the TV Series category and added a test character, but it still is not showing up in the Submission Form.

Sorry this may be a silly question, but when you select the fandom (in your case, American Gothic), do you click on the arrow in the middle to select it - making it appear on the list on the right-hand side? I couldn't tell from the screencaps you provided.

Once you do that, the characters list should update to include the characters from that particular fandom, not just the site-wide characters.

Hi,

Yes, I also clicked on the pairing and added it with the arrow. Characters field was still blank (See second reply for new screenshots).  I have no idea what's going on here, but it's definitely frustrating.

So did you add the characters under Lucas & Gail, or did you add them under American Gothic? (I just signed up as user "snitchbitch" on your site, BTW).

I've made you an admin, if you'd like to check it out?  Characters were added under American Gothic. I also tried one as a test under Lucas/Gail, but same result. Any added right under the sitewide is there immediately on the submissions form. I can't add hundreds of characters on the site wide though, or authors will have to wade through them all to find theirs.
