I tried to update my site tonight from 3.3.1 to 3.4.1 and ran into an issue similar to Julieann's here but the difference is, after overwriting the files as per your readme file, the script never ask to update the files or anything. The only thing I got was the following:
A fatal MySQL error was encountered.
Query: SELECT author.penname as penname, co.uid FROM fanfiction_coauthors AS co LEFT JOIN fanfiction_authors as author ON co.uid = author.uid WHERE co.sid = '97'
Error: (1146) Table 'sasaraor_efiction.fanfiction_coauthors' doesn't exist
when going to the url www.sasara.org/agf
I tried to do the www.sasara.org/agf/update.php but it continues to throw the site to the maintenance.php even though I never put the site into maintenance to begin with.
Was going to post this before I did anything to it to see if anyone else was having this issue. I reuploaded the files twice making sure to NOT overwrite my config.php or anything to the file.
Sorta at a loss on this one.

Log in and it will stop taking you to maintenance.

I tried to login via user/login.php and it throws me a nice blank page. Is that the right way to go about logging in if you do not have any options to do so?
Not sure where else to try and login at since I have no links. I am using a modified skin, that wouldn't have anything to do with me not seeing anything would it?

No. You've probably got a block active that's throwing the error.
I extracted the files from the backup I had made and just reuploaded the files for efiction, didn't restore my database, and I am back to the 3.3.1 version of the script. I looked at the blocks initialized and it was the following:
Featured
Login
Random
Categories
News
Info
Skinchange
Menu
Recent
Loggedin
and Search
I will re up the files while making sure I am logged in as Admin and try again.

For now, I am going to just leave it alone. I got the same error as before so I just re upped the 3.3.1 files and left it alone. Will try my hand at it again at a later date.
