URL to your eFiction: Don't have one yet, I was working on a test site
Version of eFiction: 3.3
Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: Nope
Version of PHP: 5.2.6
Version of MySQL: 5.0.51a (i think - I got that info off phpinfo)
Have you searched for your problem: no, but its not a problem so much as a general question!
If so, what terms did you try:
Do you have a test account for us? nope
State the nature of your problem:
I want to know if this app will run on a windows server, I'm moving from my current host (which sucks) but I can't find another host that will let me have sub domains on linux so I'm going all windows server (because I write asp).
I tested the site on the current host (windows side) and got a tone of errors on the install page and the form at the bottom, filled in the first form about the database and got a page full of errors that said it couldn't connect to the database.
Any help?
Did you create the database (and user) before you tried to install the software?
My Site:
eFiction: v3.4.3
PHP: 5.2.6
MySQL: 5.0.45-community
Mods: Challenges, Submit Time and Word Count
may be wrong in this but I always thought that eFiction run better under linux than windows my current webhost is linux and I can create sub-domains no problem via CPanel (if you want more details about my current host feel free to contact me via pm)

my site url: http://www.fanfictionworld.org
efic version:3.5.3
eFiction should run on a Windows server...it should run on any sever with php and MySQL. Does your server have those?
What errors are you getting?
Currently running eFiction 3.4.2 on a Windows 2003 Server with 5.2.6 php and 5.0.67 MySQL (although until recently I was at 5.0.51a). My *only* problem I ever had (although I had php and MySQL confirmed to be running correctly before adding eFiction) was the inability to use any other port for MySQL other than the default 3306. Nothing I did with localhost, IP address, the config files or anything else let me use a different port. Setting MySQL to 3306 and everything connected fine.
efiction - 3.5.3
MySql - 5.5.32
php - 5.5.22
Linex - Apache 2.2.17

ToTheJourney: Yes, I did set up the database and table before I started.
fanfictionworld: I don't want a linux host, Ideally I want one the does both, but that seems impossible to find, I have no use for a Linux host except this and a forum I run, beyond that all my sites are ASP and they don't run on Linux.
Carissa: http://sgakinkawards.amuseingwriters.co.uk/phpbb/install/install.php <-- this is the test page using a friends host. If I fill in the details all I get a whole page of errors similar to this followed by a fatal error, cannot connect to database.
Thanks π
hobert: thanks for this, but I'm pretty sure its on a standard port, I've set them up on the current host using linux without a problem. I just don't want to loose the archives when I change to a windows only.
Do you have efiction in the same directory as your forum software? They need to be in separate directories...
Also, those errors should not make the install fail. They're only notices. Your page is failing because you don't have the correct user information for your database, or you haven't added your database user to your database.
No, I tested a forum in the folder, and I have the information for the database - took it off the host site itself and it worked for the forum I tested - then I deleted the tables in there so I could test efiction.
Thanks for all the help - I found the issue... the host is useless as well as crap! π
