This article will help with basic troubleshooting with some tips and steps you might want to try before going "I-think-I-broke-it-omg-what-do-I-do?!".

This (soon-to-be) comprehensive guide assumes that you have read all the rest of the associated help documentation (docs) and understand that google and searching are your best friend. And is the guide to consult before posting a new topic in any of the Support Forums (with the Support Request Template of course).

Note: This is a work in progress.

Fresh/Clean/New Installation

  • Does your host meet all the proper requirements for eFiction?
Especially for free hosts! Make sure that your host supports the following (If unsure ask them/contact support):
    • MySQL Database
    • PHP 4 or higher
  • Did you upload all of your files correctly?
Try using a different FTP Program to upload your files, some web File Managers do not always do the job.
  • Are they in the correct location?
For example, they may need to be uploaded to /public_html depending on your web host.
  • Are they CHMODed properly?
If you do not know how to CHMOD, simply search the forums or google it.
  • Did the installation run smoothly?
If no, then you'll want to post in the Installation/Upgrading Support Forum.

Current/Existing eFiction

  • Did you modify any files? Or bridge eFiction with any other software?
Let us know when posting a request if you did, in the General Support forum. If you're software is bridged, or modified to work with a mod let us know as well.
  • Have you switched hosts? Has your host changed anything?
