Sorry if this has already been dealt with, i am sure i remember reading smt about this already and i just searched and couldnt find.

just had a complaint from author about logging in with penname: 24

when i tried i got a white screen. This author has been with us since the 1.1 version we used (although i was not on project back in those days) and thru version 2 this didnt seem to be a problem as far as i know, at least i never recieved any complaints anyway.

For the moment, i have changed the penname to 24__ (24 with two spaces after it - not underscores) and that seems to be working. Is there a way i can trick the script or mod it to accept such a short penname without it throwing a white screen at me? Or is it just best to tell authors if they use smt so short, then they are just going to have to add the spaces?

thanks
jacci

Unfortunately there are multiple places where you'd have to change things.  You'll need to look for something like:

preg_match("!^[a-z0-9_ ]{3,30}

And change the {3,30} to {2,30}

Start with the user/ files, but there are probably more places than that.

I think i might just add smt to the registration rules about please make your name at least 3 characters long, or use spaces.  I wouldnt want to change some and miss others cos then it woudl drive me nuts.

thanks tammy
