The main archive I help run is a moderated submissions archive. We use the submissions queue and all that, but for usually two weeks this time of year we turn unsolicited submissions off so that the people who review the fic in the queue can have a break. Unfortunately, this prevents people from editing their stories as well. I get why this is done - for those archives who have it off permanently and don't want non-posting members to see a link to edit stories they can't ever post in the first place. However, I want to look into changing this. Perhaps a new admin setting: leave "unsolicited submissions" the same, but add one to toggle something like "vacation mode" that turns of adding new stories but allows editing of them. Anyone interested?

I validate authors and stories, not just chapters. For our archive if we wanted a break we could turn off unsolicited submissions, but the authors and stories that were already validated could still update.

We also validate authors. They're all level 4 admins as well, so they can post when the site is closed to submissions. But I'd say the majority of our submissions are from non-validated members.
