That won't mess up the other stuff on the site with it? That's why I haven't reuploaded the entire thing and reinstalled the entire update again b/c I'm afraid of that.... but I shall go do now *nods* thanks 🙂

Delete them again and drop the files in your database.

Here are my challenge files, place the folder under /modules and upload:

*file removed*

Try installing that. If that doesn't work, I'll try sending you the database table structure that i have on my site.

Reuploading the same files doesn't mess up the site, unless you changed the files in some way, like mods- then reuploading just uploads the files without the changes you made. Don't redo the "update", when you have to click on the update feature, it sometimes just changes the database stuff, and changes the version number listed. Once it's done, it's done.

Okay... did everything you said. Also... there were like 10 challenges in the fanfiction_modules table... so I deleted them, and reinstalled it and it said everything went ok but the page is still blank. In all of my skins the challenges templates are right as is the default ones (obviously).

I have the backup of my database from before I installed the updated version with my challenges (that have been deleted) but I can't get to just that one table to reinstall those *sigh*

Thanks for all this help, I really appreciate it

Why can't you get to the table?

There should not be ANY challenges in the fanfiction_modules table. This is my fanfiction_modules table:

--
-- Table structure for table `fanfiction_modules`
--

CREATE TABLE `fanfiction_modules` (
  `id` int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment,
  `name` varchar(100) character set latin1 collate latin1_general_ci NOT NULL default 'Test Module',
  `version` varchar(10) character set latin1 collate latin1_general_ci NOT NULL default '1.0',
  PRIMARY KEY  (`id`),
  KEY `name_version` (`name`,`version`)
) ENGINE=MyISAM  DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=3 ;

--
-- Dumping data for table `fanfiction_modules`
--

INSERT INTO `fanfiction_modules` VALUES (1, 'Challenges', '1.1');
INSERT INTO `fanfiction_modules` VALUES (2, 'Story End', '1.1');

That's it.

The actual challenges should be in fanfiction_challenges table. My database entry for fanfiction_challenges:

--
-- Table structure for table `fanfiction_challenges`
--

CREATE TABLE `fanfiction_challenges` (
  `chalid` int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment,
  `challenger` varchar(200) NOT NULL default '',
  `uid` int(11) NOT NULL default '0',
  `title` varchar(250) NOT NULL default '',
  `catid` varchar(200) NOT NULL default '',
  `characters` varchar(200) NOT NULL default '',
  `summary` text NOT NULL,
  `responses` int(11) NOT NULL default '0',
  PRIMARY KEY  (`chalid`),
  KEY `title` (`catid`),
  KEY `uid` (`uid`),
  KEY `title_2` (`title`),
  KEY `characters` (`characters`)
) ENGINE=MyISAM  DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=77 ;

--
-- Dumping data for table `fanfiction_challenges`
--

INSERT INTO `fanfiction_challenges` VALUES (1, 'Jan_AQ', 3, 'Snowball Challenge', '8', '269', 'Harry throws a snowball at Professor Snape's head!', 5);

Try dropping yours and adding that to the SQL to create it. It should work.

This is so weird....  okay so you click the challenge page.... doesn't work, right?

I decided to go see it by browse... http://www.trackbunnies.org/browse.php?type=challenges

And it works now...

Something is up with the challenge page...  I don't know why or what... even if the template for my skins didn't work, the default one would.

Question.... I have my database from before I uploaded the new update.... which had all of my challenges in it... is there anyway I can upload only that ONE table (challenges)?

You know what? You probably just have an old pagelink taking you to a challenges page that doesn't work. This is where the challenge link is supposed to take you.

http://www.trackbunnies.org/browse.php?type=challenges

Go look through your pagelinks, and the headers of your old skins and see if you have the wrong link listed. I remember having this problem before, you need to list the new link, not the broken one.

Yes you can only upload the challenges table. Scroll through it until you find

--
-- Table structure for table `fanfiction_challenges`
--

or whatever your table was named if it has a different suffix. Copy only the INSERT INTO portion below it and use SQL to put it back into your database.

Are you serious? *bangs head* That's probably what it was all along lol

What do you suggest I open the file in? It's so big... we have almost 1500 members and almost 800 stories... and when I open it in notebook... it opens with a bunch of little boxes in the file or it freezes.

I really appreciate this.. as soon as I get my next paycheck, I'm SO making a donation lol

I open SQL files using Macromedia Dreamweaver. Notepad tends to open the whole thing as one big block of text. Macromedia Dreamweaver opens mine with breaks so it's easier to find sections.

If you saved your whole database, you should try making a copy of it, opening it and deleting it bit by bit until you only have the challenges part left. That's what I did when I saved the whole database. I now only save the individual tables, one by one. It makes it so much easier to reinsert if there's a problem. I find that the whole database is so big, it makes the program freeze up.

You can also try using Crimson Editor [it's a free program like notepad but suited toward editing coding].  It's opened large SQL files for me.  It warns it might not be able to save any changes..but I'm usually doing what Jan's stated, I'm looking for a particular chunk if I'm not pointing  phpAdmin to the sql file to upload and run to install a back up.

That worked! God bless ya'll!

One little quirk though, when you do something (in admin mode) and it says "click here to go back to challenges" it takes you back to that modules/challenges/challenges thing... how would I change that?
