Hello lovely people,

At www.sucker-love.com we had installed v2 last year or so, but then we got hacked and now we need to start from scratch. I was wondering if it was essential to upgrade to v3, since learning how to work v2 was difficult enough for my poor php-ignorant brain! And here in the install file I see lots of things I've no idea about, and am I correct in assuming that the skin will need changing as well?

Mainly I'm interest in security issues, because the features in v2 were more than enough to fulfil our needs. Unless v2 is significantly unsafe or not supported anymore, I'd rather stick with it.

Thank you for any and all opinions on the subject!

If you've been hacked, then you should upgrade. There are security holes in 2.0 that do not exist in 3.0. While we still support 2.0, no more updates are being made to it.

Gotcha. Is there a way to make the install simpler / slimmer? Say, not uploading TinyMCE, or these 'bridges' (what are those??), cFonts (?), etc? I'd rather need to make it as easy and bare-bones as possible and do away with the optionals, otherwise we'll go quite mad πŸ˜€

Many thanks!

The easiest thing to do is run the upgrade as it comes. After you upgrade, then you can delete things you don't need.

You don't need to upload the tinymce folder if you're going to leave that feature off.  Same with the bridges folder.  If you want to use the captcha system you need to upload the cFonts folder.  I would suggest you use the captcha system as it does add to your site's security.

Oh excellent! Captcha (shall Wiki) and cFonts it is then, and I'll make do without the rest. I'm on a really bad dial-up, so every bit of simplification helps.
Thanks a lot!!
