problem: I had an eFiction archive (www.memororis.com/efiction/) with the same host, but I have to move that one under this domain (I didn't want to just rename the other 'cos I intend to use it as well). I tried to move it myself but I was really lost with it and could not figure out how to do that; so I asked my host if they could move the files to this new domain. They did. Only now... I don't think it was that simple.
My index page shows "A fatal MySQL error was encountered.
ERROR: Failed to connect to the database!"
Am I supposed to install it again? I tried that too, but then it said "Warning: mysqli_connect() [function.mysqli-connect]: (28000/1045): Access denied for user 'csxkwzob_tokiofi'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /home/tokiohot/public_html/efiction/includes/mysqli_functions.php on line 7
A fatal MySQL error was encountered.

The user name there is the user name of my previous site; how can I change it to the new one and would that solve this? :/
Did you change the password and username to the database? That's why it's not connecting. Go to the config.php file and edit the info there. You say it's the same host serving both efiction sites. Go to your myPHPAdmin and see if you can connect to your mysql database with whatever username and password you used to originally set up your first database. If it doesn't work ask your host what did may have changed the name and password to.

Thanks for replying! π But...
I haven't changed them, but of course the current username and password are different from the old ones since the host generates them for each account and then hands them to me. Should I try to change the config.php to have the new username and password? I tried that but it still said pretty much the same as I quoted earlier. (This is what it says now: "Warning: mysqli_connect() [function.mysqli-connect]: (28000/1045): Access denied for user 'tokiohot_tokioho'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /home/tokiohot/public_html/efiction/includes/mysqli_functions.php on line 7

And i can't assign the original username to the current archive since the host service automatically adds the domain's own beginning to the username. It used to be csxkwzob_something for the database and now it automatically turns to tokiohot_something.
Is there anything my host can do about this? I feel stupid for asking them to do any more if it's all to do with eFiction's code and something I should do. :/
It's weird that they generate the username and password for sql databases. Even on my freebie test site for setting up databases I did it myself in the cpanel. I think the username was always the same but the database I would create I would set my password for it. I'm just curious who your webhost is. But I don't know if I can help beyond this. Maybe if we know the webhost someone else using the same service might be able to help you.

My host is a Finnish Ammuu.com, I doubt anyone here uses it. lol
And no, they don't generate the whole username and password, but they automatically add the username to the beginning of the database username I create. -.- Say, if my username was boohoo and I set boohoo as a database user too, it'd be boohoo_boohoo. :/
I contacted my host again and asked if they'd have any idea how to go about this. So I'll wait π
Thank you π
I had a simalar thing with my forums when I moved between servers and I got my host to copy the database over for me to the new account and then all I had to do was to go into the config file for the forum and reset the database info with the new database info and then it connected and worked fine
so yeah see your host they should be able to help you with your issue
