My index page has both the Categories box and Site Info box which display counts of stories. This is a single-author site, so I am the only one who has uploaded any stories, and I have uploaded 15 stories. The number of stories listed in the Categories box does not match the number of stories listed in the Site Info box:
Categories/Fanfiction - 19
Site Info/Stories - 15
So far, the only stories I have uploaded are in the fanfiction category, so I'm expecting the counts to be the same--15. My author info page shows all 15 of the stories that I have uploaded as I expect. All are single chapter stories with the exception of one that has 13 chapters and one that has 21 chapters.
The mismatch in story counts happens in both the provided skins and the modified one that I set up, so it doesn't appear to be a skin issue.
Where is the count of 19 coming from in the Category/Fan Fiction? How can I fix it? I've read through the 3.3 bugs and solved bugs posts, but didn't see anything related to this issue. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Stories can be added to more than one category.
A story included in category 1 and category 2, still counts as ONE story only. 🙂
So you can have
Category A (1) Category B (1)
Story count: 1
and be correct. All the stories that are in categories Angel, AND Buffy, are counted in each of the categories. It's still one story though.

Ah, I figured there must be some logic that I was missing! I definitely need to keep rethinking how I want to categorize these stories. Thanks so much for clearing up that mystery. So this was definitely not a bug at all--more a matter of a cataloger not really knowing how to work the system. 🙄
Yeah, and it's okay to leave your categories the way they are. It doesn't really matter if the counts appear to be off at first glance..
