URL to your eFiction: none at the moment, can't get it installed
Version of eFiction: 3.5.3
Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: No
Version of PHP: 3.3.10
Version of MySQL: 5.0.51a
Have you searched for your problem: Yes and found similar and worked the fixes but didn't fix mine
If so, what terms did you try: created new admin user, double checked my hostname protocol/spelling, changed the CHMOD or whatever to both 755 and 777, gone through TWO SQL databases thinking maybe first one was bugged for some reason, checked both user permissions (both have same admin permissions); I have changed nothing in any of the files, just moved the config.php to the root directory and changed is CHMOD per the installation instructions
State the nature of your problem: In File Setup Screen- Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) in /home/vgilliam/roytoys.org/eFiction353/install/install.php on line 903 (Above typing in the database/user/pw) Cannot connect to the database. The information you supplied appears to be incorrect. Please try again.
Do you have a test account for us? http://www.roytoys.org/eFiction353/install/install.php?step=1  User name: ********** edited by admins

Everytime I install this program or do anything, it's nothing but trouble.  If it didn't work so fantastic once installed, I wouldn't bother...sigh.  I had no trouble installing Coppermine's Gallery db so I have no idea what eFiction's issue is.

hobert - I'm with DreamHost as well and it may be that they don't allow for 'localhost' - I know I ran into that bump as well when I first started with them. It's a simple enough solution but not one you'd expect to have to do.
