URL to your eFiction: http://www.slashfiction.net
Version of eFiction: 3.2.1
Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: Nope
Version of PHP: 4.0
Version of MySQL: 2.7 (I think)
Have you searched for your problem: Yes
If so, what terms did you try: spam, spambots, spam members, admin approve
State the nature of your problem:
Since April I have suddenly been flooded with spam members. Their names are always similar Mmkdgo Mgsoth, or Rhigyk Rtmvusn, etc.
I receive around 10 new accounts/day. I had the site set to "Password at Registration: member selected" Yesterday I changed the setting to "Password at Registration: randomly generated" hoping this would solve the problem. This morning when I checked, there was 4 new spam members.
I also noticed that I had a ton of spam challenges so I disabled the block. I manually deleted all the 600+ spam members via the admin panel.
I'm kinda at my wits end. In March I had an angry reviewer threaten a DDOS Attack. I'm not sure if this is what's causing the problem.
Any help, suggestions would be fab.
Here is a member account of a spam member: http://slashfiction.net/viewuser.php?uid=1197
I would love to know if there is any way to allow members to have to be approved by the admin before they appear on the website?
Do you have a test account for us? no
thank you for any help!

Why don't you have captcha turned on in settings? Go to Admin->Settings->Site Settings. Where it says Use captcha verification select YES.
Then at least they would have to type in a code before registering. Here's an example here. And the current version of efiction is 3.4.2 you might want to go ahead and update that as well.
