Nature of your question:  So I am moving some links around on my site and I wanted to just move the Admin Panel link to the stats box to give some extra space in the main menu block.  But I want to make it so that only admins can see the link.  I know only admins can access the link (without getting the error message that they aren't authorized to view that content).  Any help would be appreciated.

Use the {adminarea} variable.  It won't show up to non-admins.

Somehow, that should have been obvious. Thanks Tammy!

EDIT: So I put that...it shows up as {adminarea}

You can't add it to the text of the block in the admin panel. You can add it beneath the block

{info_content}
{admin_area}

Sorry to sound like an idiot, but I'm assuming I need to put that code in one of the .tpl files, yes?  Which one?

It'll depend on the skin. Probably either index.tpl or header.tpl depending on whether the stats show on every page or just the index page.
