I can't get to the edit story page for any of the stories in my database. I was got there once, ever since then it freezes the browser. Is it my browser? And how can I determine if it's my browser or the database.

Sorry, a little frustrated.

The truth is this came from a long sequencing of problems.

First of all, my site is http://heroesfiction.awardspace.com

It started with a user saying she was having problems editing a chapter title. Everytime she went to edit the chapter it kicked her to a file not found page. It did the same to me. So I deleted the chapter and readded it and all was well, sort of.

The readding of the chapter meant I needed to get to the edit story page. It allowed me the first couple times and now won't let me get there at all, it freezes.

I am running IE 6.0. I can get to the edit story page in my very old version of Netscape. But there it shows there are two chapter sixes.

I'm currently very baffled.

Do you have dial-up, or perhaps it's your computer being slow? No one else has reported such errors occurring on their sites, and most sites display just fine in IE6, Firefox and Opera. If you could perhaps provide us with a test account, we try to see this for our selves, since your site requires membership.

Well, I just tested it on other computers, and it does the same. ANd it's not just loading slow, it's literally freezing the browser. So that IE is "not responding" and I have to restart it.

Oddly enough it doesn't do it all the time, I can get it to load with the elegance skin, aparently.

The skins definitely must have an affect.

Loads Okay: elegance, EventHorizon, IrishMoss

Doesn't Load: CSS Zen, Zenlike, MakeAWave, CivilWar

Very odd...

It could just be a problem with your host since you are hosted on a free host.  😐

I had this same problem. I posted my own thread and Tammy looked at it. I'm not sure what she did but she told me to turn debug mode off and it went away. The problem only happened in IE and was only on certain skins. I was using WritingPlus3 and elegance and elegance had no problems.

It's solved in the sense that I removed all the skins that froze that page.

Then when I read that the bug detect might be causing problems I turned it off, and now all of them work again.

But maybe you shouldn't tell them to turn debug on when it causes bugs in the first place?

Why did you turn debug on? That's for coders and people who modify the code to find the errors and fix them. It doesn't actively debug anything, it's just a tool.

I had it on because I didn't know better. I didn't see anything that told me either way to turn it on or off. I (wrongly) assumed it needed to be on to work. Maybe the little help question mark next to 'debug' should suggest it be off unless you have a problem. Us non-coding people just don't know better. πŸ™‚

I had the same problem and other things froze it up too. It was also the silly @#$%ing skin so I removed it and the original version of the skin (it was an edited version of elgance) as the orginal wouldn't behave either. Problem solved.
