Hi there,

I just upgraded my archive at http://ksarchive.com/ from 3.5.1 to 3.5.3. Everything went smoothly with the upgrade, except for TinyMCE, which does not appear to be working on the story posting forms.

TinyMCE IS working for admin settings. For example, I see the toolbar and can edit in WYSIWYG on my Welcome Message and Custom Pages. But it's not working for the story forms.

I checked to make sure that TinyMCE is turned on in both the Admin settings and my personal settings. There is still a checkbox on Add and Edit Story form boxes to choose to use TinyMCE, but no toolbar appears, and only HTML text is available in the story posting windows.

When it stopped working, I tried replacing the TinyMCE files with the ones from my 3.5.1 backup, but it behaves exactly the same way.

Any help very much appreciated.

ETA: I did check error logs and saw this a couple of times:
File does not exist: [...]/ksarchive/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/tiny_mce.js, referer...etc.

but the file is definitely there, so maybe that was someone trying to access it while I was working on it.

ETA2: I have tested it on Firefox, Chrome, and Safari - behavior is the same on all, and other users have reported the same issue in IE.

You could try installing a later version of tinymce from their website and see if it helps.

http://www.tinymce.com/index.php

Mucking around in eFiction since circa 2001 (ver. 1.0)

Thank you very much for responding. I did try that, but nothing changed.

ETA: I did see that someone else had reported the same problem, but never received a response. Is eFiction not being kept current/supported any more? I see that not much has happened with it since 2010. I understand about people moving on with their lives, just curious.

To anyone who might experience this issue, I just solved it by opening up the file header.php and finding all the lines that referenced tinymce. I replaced all those lines with the old code from my old header.php file. Voila, fixed.

Thanks for reading.

Killa, were you referring to my post over in the general support forums? Our tinymce worked fine for nearly a year. For us, there have been no eficiton upgrades since we opened our site. Our problems began when browsers updated past a certain point -- first android users, then IE9, and eventually Firefox gave problems, too.

Now, Firefox seems to work okay, and I think I recall an update to it within the last couple/few weeks.

Any way, do you think your fix would take care of our problem?

Killa, were you referring to my post over in the general support forums?

I don't believe so-- the post I was referring to was by the admin of one of the Harry Potter archives, and they did write me back when I got desperate and asked them what they'd done to fix it. Turned out I didn't hear from them until after I fixed it, but they said pretty much the same thing—that they thought they remembered uploading the old version of tinyMCE. That didn't actually work for me—I had to copy and paste the relevant sections of my old header.php into the new header.php.

I couldn't tell you if this might help you, but I can tell you that it seems to be working on my Firefox and Chrome browsers (the latest versions). I'm on a Mac, so I can't test on IE9, but since I did this, I haven't had any complaints from users and the ones I asked to test it said it was working for them.
