Oh well, after the upgrade from 2.07 went quite smoothly - I had lots of errors there too but I figured them all out by myself sooner or later and the site worked absolutely fine after that- I thought the upgrade to 3.1.1 would be easy as well, since there were no 'major changes' from 3.1 to 3.1.1.
But the update complete wracked the layout and I have tons of error messages at the top. Normally I would try to figure them out by myself, but I don't even know where to start.

I must have done something completely wrong but I am blind as to what or where I did 'it' wrong.
At a guess I'd say your FTP program corrupted a file when it was uploading the new files. I'd guess maybe includes/pagesetup.php, includes/corefunctions.php or header.php. Possibly more. For some reason, it's showing the php code and not processing it.
so the solution would be, to re-upload all files?
*edit*
I re-uploaded all php files which are placed in the efiction folder and the files in the include folder, the install-folder, blocks-folder, browse-folder, user-folder, modules-folder the error messages became significantly shorter. I think I will try to re-upload the rest also.

Ah yes... I logged in right now and got that message:

God... I don't know how I did it, but that error message (warning, cannot modify....) is gone now. Don't ask me how.
When I go to your page I see this at the top of the screen:
$s wrote '%2$s' as a review for '%3$s'."); define ("_LOG_EDIT_REVIEW", "%1$s edited a review for '%3$s'."); // Report Types define ("_REPORT", "Report"); define ("_MISSING", "Missing Information"); define ("_RULESVIOLATION", "Violation of Rules"); define ("_BUGREPORT", "Bug Report"); define ("_REPORTTHIS", "Report This"); ?>
Seems like not all the files have been uploaded properly.

I know that...
and Tammy already said as much in her post. That is why I uploaded every file and folder I mentioned in my last post again and most error messages disappaered after that, with the execption of the one you just quoted.
So the problem has to be with the files/folders I have not yet re-uploaded. I will try those next.
*edit*
The last two errors dissappeared when I exchanged the docs-folder and the languages-folder.
I have no idea why all those files where corrupted when first uploaded. There was no indication for that during the upload process. I had the same settings, there were no error messages... nothing.
Thanks for helping me out, Tammy and also babaca.
