I'm sorry if this help request is posted in the wrong place. I wasn't sure if this should go here or in the Skins thread.
I have an archive here: http://worldsfinest.comicslash.com/archive/index.php. When I initially installed efiction 3.1, I used Tammy's tutorial here: http://efiction.hugosnebula.com/readarticle.php?article_id=11 to modify a skin (High Desert). This skin worked fine up until I tried to update to 3.3. When I first ran the update, the second gray bar at the top of the page, the one that would hold the "Account Info Edit Bio Add New Story Admin Logout" commands was missing once a person logged in. Not having the time to figure out what went wrong, I uploaded the backup of the site over top of the new install. The skin fixed itself and I had the added bonus of the program telling me it was updated.
Today, I tried to set up a new archive here: http://www.lexslash.com/archive/index.php
I did a brand new install of 3.3 but I didn't have time to try to learn how to edit a new skin, so I took the same skin from my other archive and modified it for this new archive. However, once a person logs in, the top navigation bar disappears -- even though this same skin works on my first archive. This is the same problem that I had during the upgrade to the first archive.
I'm not sure whether this is a skin problem or an update problem. I'm not sure what you would need to see in order to help with the problem. If anyone does have a spare minute, though, to evaluate what is going on here, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you in advance.
The skin fixed itself and I had the added bonus of the program telling me it was updated.
But it's not updated. You would be using an out of date copy of the script.
It's probably a skin problem. You should try using the skins that came with the download. If they work fine, then it's not a problem with the script. When it updated, maybe something changed with the variables and the menu no longer worked because it's variables then said that it was turned off, or it was looking for some different variables.
You're going to have to wait until Tammy or someone else sees this. I don't know this skin or the changes in the update, if they are connected.
Tammy's version of the skin seems to be working:

Whoever said nothing is impossible never tried slamming a revolving door.

Well, the version check is telling me that the version is 3.3, so I wouldn't know any more than what the program is telling me--which is a problem in itself, I guess.
You're going to have to wait until Tammy or someone else sees this.
Will do. Thank you *so* much for taking a look at my problem and providing me with your thoughts.
Put the original files back in the default_tpls folder so we can determine if it's a skin problem or a script problem.
Put the original files back in the default_tpls folder so we can determine if it's a skin problem or a script problem.
I'm so sorry but I don't understand. The original files from where? And do you mean my World's Finest archive (the upgrade) or the Lexslash archive (the new installation)?
Do you mean that I should turn the multiple skins option on via the admin interface?
I'm referring to your Lexslash archive. The script comes with a folder called default_tpls that are basically skin files that will load if the script can't find the user's personal skin. When I go here: http://www.lexslash.com/archive/index.php?skin=foo that skin should load up, but it doesn't. This usually means the files that came with the script have been overwritten.
Okay, I looked on the server and the default.tpl folder is there. I then downloaded 3.3 again and compared the contents, and the same 25 items are in the folder on the server as are in the download. The permissions on this folder on the server are set to 755.
Is there something else I should do to help you evaluate?
Again, I'm sorry for not being more knowledgeable and thank you for your help.
It's still not working. Wonder why?
Also, you should check that you have the long form set in your settings. (blocks>login). This is, of course, the most likely cause of your problem and the easiest problem.
Which of course means I'm going to overlook it and try everything else first.
You know, I really don't think upon looking at the original 3.3 code that anything but the account info link is supposed to show up after the user has logged in.
Look at this thread: https://efiction.org/forums/index.php?topic=4369.0
You probably modded your files and don't remember.

I didn't mod anything other than Tammy's tutorial here:

Not even the account info link is showing up. There is no way for anyone to navigate their account at all (or log out) after signing in.
I guess the question is why the exact same skin works in 3.2 but not in 3.3.
Is there a way for me to download 3.2 again? I'd rather go back to 3.2 until I can get this figured out...
Well, given the fact that you're having also having problems with the default_tpls, I'd say something went wrong with your install. Delete the files, delete the database, and start over with a clean slate.

I've already done this once.

You wouldn't happen to know how I can get a copy of version 3.2? It's no longer listed on the downloads page.
Thanks!

This worked! Thank you! :hugs and kisses:
BTW, I do know that a paltry "thank you" for your help and this script is completely inadequate for all the ease and joy your work has brought to my fandom activities (which are broad and ever increasing, LOL). You, and the wonderful people who help out on this board, are part of the very best of fandom. In my ten years in various fandom, I have yet to run across anything that I love as much as this script and the help you guys provide with it. Blessings.
