Have you searched for your problem: Yes
If so, what terms did you try: smf, smf bridge, smf charset, smf language (and variations of all of those)
State the nature of your problem:
For the most part, my install of the SMF bridge went fine, but for some reason, my language or charset is messed up. For example, the title "Du Víkjadin a Shur’tugal" shows up as "Du V?kjadin a Shur?tugal" and there are all sorts of random "Â" included after end punctuation marks.
I'm not sure what exactly is wrong here. Did I install SMF wrong, or did I install the bridge wrong?

Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: SMF

Version of MySQL: MySQL 4.1.14
Leaving this up so others will benefit from my mistake--DO NOT click to make everything utf-8 when you are installing SMF. 🙂

What do you suggest then? I am about to convert my SMF database to UTF-8 because it will be needed to bridge the database to other programmes besides e-fiction (in which we have asked the network guys to see if thet can get the bridge between efiction and smf working (two existing installs). It would be useful to get more information about this.
You can probably do this if you also set your eFiction character set and database tables to utf-8.
