You didn't get your database set up right in a previous step. Did you set up a database through your host? If so, did you enter that information correctly in the previous step in the installation?
I've been using the one that's been set up for me for about two years now, with my present host. I did enter the details correctly, but it seems that my PHPMyAdmin panel isn't functioning as it should... I've emailed my host, to see if she has any idea what's wrong with it.
Could changing my password or database in config.php after the initial upload and attempt at installation make these things change?
Never mind, problem fixed! I've just registered a new domain and it's installing fine there, so I think DreamHost was just hiccupping as it so often does...
