I have the strangest error when users try to upload images. I have enabled uploading images at my site and I allow my users to upload pictures with a size of 1024 x 1024. Under normal circumstances this works perfectly, however in the last few weeks users started to complain that they couldn't upload their images, although it had the proper size and there was nothing else wrong with them.
When they uploaded the image they simply got an error message like this:
Error! We encountered an error. Please go back and try again.
And nothing more.
It clearly must have something to do with the image. One image for example had the size 800x619 pixel and 308 KB, it simply will not upload to the server. 😕 I tried to upload another picture which was also 800x619 px but slightly smaller (100 KB I think) and it worked perfectly fine. I ultimately tried to upload the image via FTP which also worked perfectly fine. But uploading it via "Manage images" in the users account remains impossible.
This is just one example, there were more, I have absolutely no idea whats wrong, it's a mystery to me why you can upload some images and some not. It also seems that this is a complete random occurrence, I can't see a connection between the images you can upload and the images you cannot upload.

You're probably either timing out or hitting a setting somewhere that limits either file size or image dimensions.
Timing out? I get an error after a few seconds..... 😐 Maybe I'm getting this wrong and misinterpret timing out.....
Were can I change all the things concerning file size? I have already changed the image dimensions at Settings -> Submission Settings to an very high width and height. Is there another possibility?

It sounds like the dimensions aren't the problem. It seems to be the file size itself. I'm not sure what you can do to allow large file size uploads, maybe check settings in MySQL or PHPMyAdmin. If all else fails just ask your members to upload smaller (MB) images.

I'm pretty much sure that it has to do with the file size. I reduced the file size of one of the pictures from almost 400 KB to 200 KB and afterwards it worked.
So where can I change the the file size settings? I am at a loss, I have searched but found nothing. A user told me that she was able to upload bigger images before the upgrade to 3.3.1. That confused me somehow 😕 Help would be much appreciated. I asked some of them to reduce the file size but it's not always possible and some claim that they really depend on the image upload.

That is most likely set by your host. (You can double check in phpinfo...it's somewhere near the bottom, I think.) If the width and height are within the limits of your efic install, then you'll need to contact them about the size of the actual file.
Yes, it's because of funpic. It's a free, ad-managed hoster with 2 gb space and unlimited traffic. But most of these free hosters have very strong restrictions in php and other configurations. Small file upload sizes for example.
