Upgrading from 1.1 to 3.3 -
Did everything in the ReadMe file ... the first error I encountered was that it said I could use the randomly generated sitekey or make-up my own. I tried both because when I clicked submit, all I got was another randomly generated sitekey! It refused to go past this point.
So I started completely over again and now I have this:
A fatal MySQL error was encountered.
Query: RENAME TABLE fanfiction_settings TO fanfiction_settings_old
Error: (1050) Table 'fanfiction_settings_old' already exists
I think I got the original eFiction installed by sheer dumb luck. I know next to nothing about mySQL so I won't take any offence if any help is given in language a 5-year-old could understand; in fact, I'd welcome it.
I did a search for other posts regarding error 1050 before posting this, but was unable to find anything I could decipher clearly enough to help me. I feel like such a moron. I just invited several new authors to be hosted at my site and now have nothing! The upgrade instructions seemed easy enough but my site isn't cooperating and I'm sure it's a user error!
Where my site's fan fiction is: http://www.slytherinselection.com/eFiction/
and of course the way it's sitting ... anyone could go mess around (from how it appears to me) which is rather unnerving. Of course, if someone randomly came and fixed it somehow, I'd be elated...
I've seen some posts about deleting duplicate tables or some such? But despite all my best efforts, I just do not see where I should even be looking to fix anything.
Also, when I initially uploaded my files, it said "Directories containing Web site configuration information will not be imported." --- in case that makes any difference. Per my file manager, my permissions are set correctly for the install/config files to work.
I need eFiction for Dummies....
Any advice?
Many thanks,
MysticSong
From just looking at the error, I'd say go into phpMyadmin and manually delete the settings table ... but because you're "carrying" information over, I'd rename it to something else and then see what happens ...
I'm not sure though, because I jumped in with 3.3. π

Thank you. I tried that and after some messing about got a successfully created table ....and after more messing about ... I got ALMOST all the way through the installation... everything was coming up green checks... I was so excited.... and then I got huge amounts of errors... *bangs head on desk in frustration*
Because I have really nice authors .... and am hoping they won't mind re-posting .... I erased it all and am starting from scratch with a fresh installation. I even erased the database and recreated it....
After 10 attempts I got past the initial admin / database setup/connection ..... and now see:
Warning: mysqli_connect() [function.mysqli-connect]: Access denied for user 'mystic78'@'localhost' to database 'efiction' in /home/mystic78/public_html/eFiction/includes/mysqli_functions.php on line 7
Warning: dbconnect(includes/en.php) [function.dbconnect]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/mystic78/public_html/eFiction/includes/mysqli_functions.php on line 9

I'm continuously re-checking other topic but not finding anything at this time that matches my problem. I've been at this for hours instead of my graduate homework... I would love it someone could help me fix this up quick before it drives me insane and I can go back to the more peaceful world of economics..... π
Thank you in advance!

Edit as of Aug 29, 2p - My tech guy for my website host was able to fix the problem and actually re-did the entire installation for me so everything seems good to go. Now just learning the new version. Love the new options now that I can see them! π
