Version of PHP: 2.6.3-pl1 is the PHP admin. I am unsure of the PHP version.
Version of MySQL: 4.1.14
Have you searched for your problem: (yes/no) Yes, and I've read through most of the installation threads here
If so, what terms did you try: set up database and others
State the nature of your problem: I think I have not set up my database correctly (or that I haven't set it up at all). I've not used MySQL before.
I have uploaded all of the files from the download, and used phpMyAdmin to create a database called "efiction." However, that's as far as I got. There are no tables in it, etc. I also don't really see where I can add a user, etc. As a result, I'm getting an error that tells me my login info is wrong. ("Cannot connect to the database. The information you supplied appears to be incorrect. Please try again.")
I use Yahoo! Small Business, if that's any help.
Do you have a test account for us?No--haven't set up my own!
Anyway, I apologize in advance for my igorance. I am a moderator for a fiction site using a version of 2.0 and want to play around with 3.3 on my own so I don't inadvertently mess up anything on our main site. If you can point me in ANY direction, I'll happily go there. I was hoping to find what I was looking for without posting a thread, but most of your threads just say "set up your database," and I think I haven't done that correctly.

For this bit:
Database Host: [?] localhost (Although some webhosts use different things. For instance in freehostia it my be something like mysql45.freeshostia.com) The host server for your mySQL database. Generally 'localhost' is the most likely setting unless your web host has informed you differently.
Database Name: [?]This should be the name of your database. You should have already created the database before starting this install. You will most likely create your database through your web host's control panel. So in this case since you named your database 'efiction' efiction
Database User: [?]This is the user you (or your webhost) assigned to the database when it was created. For some it's just their user name for others the webhost my request you give it a username that's different from your regular one. It depends.
Database Password: This is the password you used to set up your database
Leave Sitekey and Language alone but for
Settings Table Prefix: I tried leaving it blank and it wouldn't let me get far, so give it a name... any name you want.
Once you get through all the screens efiction will allow you to set up an admin account. The tables don't get created until after step 2 or 3 I think of the efiction install.

Now running v.3
Wow--thank you for such a quick reply.
Okay--here's what I have.
I have been using "localhost," because Yahoo lists me as mickinell@localhost (mickinell being my userID). So I am fairly sure localhost is correct there.
In phpMyAdmin, all I did to create the database was type, under the mySQL tab, efiction in the "create new database" box, next to which there was a dropdown labeled collation. I left that as is.
my username I have tried as the simple mickinell and mickinell@localhost (why not, right?)
the password - I have tried the phpMyAdmin password AND my site password (again, why not--if that's the error)
I have not bothered either the site key or the language, and I have left the final textbox blank.
Ideas?
Edit: In my privileges tab, I see the following. Could any of this have anything to do with it? FYI I have no CLUE what this means:
Warning: Your privilege table structure seem to be older than this MySQL version!
Please run the script mysql_fix_privilege_tables that should be included in your MySQL server distribution to solve this problem!
I also tried deleting the first "database" and creating a new one. It looks like I should have all the permissions:
User Host Type Privileges Grant Action
mickinell localhost wildcard: % ALL PRIVILEGES Yes Edit
database-specific ALL PRIVILEGES Yes Edit
yroot localhost global ALL PRIVILEGES Yes Edit
(Sorry if this is overkill--I'm trying to save someone time if I can figuure it out on my own)
Edit: Yahoo had changed a setting on me. It's totally installed now.
