URL to your eFiction: http://www.mor9an.net/writing
Version of eFiction: 3.3
Have you bridged eFiction? If so, with what?: No
Version of PHP: 2.10.0.2 4.4.6  🙄
Version of MySQL: 4.1.15
Have you searched for your problem: Yes
If so, what terms did you try: database, sql, mysql, cannot connect to database, installation, table

State the nature of your problem: I cannot get past the initial eFiction install screen. config.php is set to 777.  The database exists and there is an admin account associated with it, with all the rights.  Every time I enter this information in the initial screen I get the "Cannot connect to the database. The information you supplied appears to be incorrect. Please try again." Message.  I've run eFiction on this host (active-venture)  before with no trouble.

This is a new installation. Not an upgrade.

Do you have a test account for us? No.

I don't think your php is version 2.x.x.,  I think you're confusing myPHPAdmin version with that number.

But other than that:

1. Your config.php should be set to 666 and not 777.
2. Have you set up your database first?
3. Have you put in the correct database name and password for that database (the db name and username you have there looks generic like you copied it out of an example, but what do I know I may be wrong).

But first try to chmode the config.php to 666 and see if that will get you through the set up first.

Well if you go to that URL, you're not going to see my db name, admin name,  and password because it's not connecting.  config.php refuses to set to 666.  Each time I try it resets itself to 777, which should also work.

You're right about the php version number.  They're listed one on top of the other and I was looking at the wrong line.  It's 4.4.6.  I just put phptext.php back to triple-check it, and in case it helps at all.

Edit: Database and admin are most definitely there.

Wow. Okay.  I've fixed it.

I ended up having to use the IP address instead of "localhost".  It also wanted the mor9an_ portion for the admin name.  It didn't want it for the database name.

I'm glad you worked it out. Looks like it installed perfectly.

Well, it wasn't quite perfectly. The stories aren't displaying. I'm not sure they're being saved (the stories folder is chmodded correctly). I'm going to play around with it some more after I've had enough coffee before I make a new help post, though.

What's weird is I've installed efiction on this host before, and the initial information didn't need to be so convoluted.

Thanks for responding to me!

Ah, yeah I noticed after I posted the fic wasn't appearing. But it seems to be appearing now:

Do you have a lot of stories that are not showing up? Or have you managed to resolve the problem?
