I've just upgraded to 3.4.3, from 2.1.  I'm having trouble determining what is going wrong with adapting my skin.  I was getting errors exactly like the person in this thread:
https://efiction.org/forums/index.php?topic=5510.0

I made the changes to variables.php, and that did help eliminate about half the errors.  Now I am still getting this:
Notice: Undefined index: recentblock in /home/tig-tvco/public_html/lost/includes/class.TemplatePower.inc.php on line 701

Notice: Undefined index: recentblock in /home/tig-tvco/public_html/lost/includes/class.TemplatePower.inc.php on line 701

Notice: Undefined index: in /home/tig-tvco/public_html/lost/includes/class.TemplatePower.inc.php on line 701

Notice: Undefined index: recentblock in /home/tig-tvco/public_html/lost/includes/class.TemplatePower.inc.php on line 706

Notice: Undefined index: recentblock in /home/tig-tvco/public_html/lost/includes/class.TemplatePower.inc.php on line 713

My site and skin can be viewed here:  http://www.lostfic.com/index.php
I had modified the then default eFiction skin.

I did have a recentblock line put in, but I have removed it from index.tpl, but the error still appears.
I have changed the default skin to make the site readable until I can modify the skin, please refer to the eFiction skin to see the Unrefined index errors.

Thank you!

this doesn't have anything to do with your problem persay but I was looking over your archive and the link you have in your welcome message to the Help/FAQ is incorrect.  you have just youraddres/help.php and it needs to be youaddres/viewpaige.php?page=help.  Just wanted to point that out.

There's a mismatch in your recentblock settings somewhere.  Maybe you have the block turned on but not included in the skin or vice versa.  You might also have it set to use a .tpl and using the {recent_content} variable or vice versa.
