Please disregard. I figured it out.
If anyone has this issue.... I fixed by going into the CSS and changing the text alignment.
When I use the simple_machine skin (and it's various available colors) all of the stories, when you open them to read are centered by default.
I have checked my settings and cannot find anything wrong.
please advise.
