I know that this was a hot topic for 2.0, but no one has mentioned anything for 3.0 yet.

Contest and Trophy mods, maybe a module or a modification to have contests on an archive and award trophies or awards? Is anyone still interested in that? I know that I am.

Here's the old topic:

Great idea.  πŸ˜€
I think it would be great to have such mods on my archive.  πŸ™‚

I've got it listed as a to-do on my site.  I've got a contest module started, but that's something along the lines of the recommendations module.  Big and complicated.  It'll take a while.

I'm really interested in something like this as I am about to begin a fanfiction awards for Psychfic. What I'd like to have, though, is a Mod similar to the 'Featured Story' block where I can simply select the stories that are winners and they'll get an icon, like the Featured story icon. Any probability that something like that could be made since the actual contest Mod is taking a while to make?

I've actually had something like this requested by my authors, glad to hear it's being revived.

Is there any news about the Contest and Trophy Mod?

We are now already busy with version 3.5 and still nothing. In my opinion, the Contest and Trophy Mod is not a luxury, but an integral part of something like fiction archiving software as eFiction. It suppose to be integrated like the functionality as adding series.

That said, is there any news, Tammy?

I don't think that feature should be integrated into the script. It just adds to the bloat. A module would be cool though.

I agree with Jenny.  We do contests through our forums, anyway.  It would be redundant for a lot of people.

I've started some n00b work on this. I have a trophy cabinet panel down, as well as the structure of two tables that will control the award/cabinet portion of this. The awards table will hold all the awards, regardless of whether it's user-wide or just for an individual (e.g. all these people have ten stories but this person is author of the month). The cabinet table will hold which person has which award.

It's all very static right now. To add to the bare basics, an "add award" and "give award" will need to be coded. I'm doing that now. πŸ™‚

ATM I'm just doing this at my own pace, but if anyone wants an on-going progress thing just let me know. I didn't want to make a new thread in case I never got around to actually completing the mod...

Personally, I'm going to use the awards mod of the forums I'll be using. I don't see a problem with it, and if I add an optional link in the profile at eFiction to their forum profile (if I can figure that out), people can view each others awards.
