did you try running forum maintenance first?  I noticed when I run mine there were a lot of database tables that were optimised etc for efiction, and everything worked like a charm after that.

Hi all!

i Have given up on the redirect for now, I set up the links in the profile for the stories, THANKS Olandir it works great,  I do however have one problem - the same as confuzed..

The link under the posts where it has 'view stories' under the persons name/pic etc, it tries to take you to the forum stories link (which doesnt exist), I sorted the others ones out under the profile and they work fine but i cant find which file to edit for the other one, could you please tell me which file it is. (No doubt its probably somewhere simple and i've looked straight past it  :oops:)

Thanks again for all your help Confuzed and Olandir!

I don't think he has changed the file yet kylieh so what I did was unzip the package and change my links manually, then zip it back up again and install it.  That seemed easier than editing the file after it was installed, so you could either uninstall the mod, make the changes zip it and reinstall it (for me this is better if I need to make changes later) or you need to change the code in the smf display.template.php file and make the change as per Olanir's post below.  It should be $message instead of $content.

Oh good, now I don't feel so bad

The link in the post is completely my fault

The package code for the Post link says

<br /><a href=""stories/viewuser.php?action=storiesby&uid=',$content['member'"]['id'], '">', $txt['efiction_storylink'], '</a><br /><br />';

and what it should say is

<br /><a href=""stories/viewuser.php?action=storiesby&uid=',$message['member'"]['id'], '">', $txt['efiction_storylink'], '</a><br /><br />';

I was using the $content variable instead of the $message variable (which you'll notice the other profile links use. That will also fix the problem with going to the admin's page.

I have fixed the packages that are linked at the begining of this topic.  So you can either download the new ones or just change your package accordingly.

I really appreciate all your patience as we work these things out. This is the first time I've helped someone modify their site, so I'm prone to making simple mistakes when I tell you things because I'm so used to my "trial and error" appraoch, I forget that it's not as easy to fix a site that you're not directly looking at πŸ™‚

I'm sure by the time we're done, we'll have some perfect mods so I appreciate the patience.

I am going to try to build a more comprehensive mod that will attempt to gather the location of efiction so that the links can be made automatically. (that way you won't have to edit the package)

*But for me I had to put in the full path to my stories as it was going to the wrong place, which is why editing the zipped file was better for me*

Great! Thanks for letting me know.  I managed to fix the other links by going into the profile.template.php but was lost trying to find the other one.  Its now all fixed.  πŸ™‚

3.3 has been released? Oh no!  πŸ™  Do you have to completely reinstall the whole thing?  I am very new to efiction as you can probably tell.(sorry). I will have to read up on the latest changes.

So no doubt you will hear from me again shortly then lol.  But dont worry, it wont be for a while, too much happening at present, bad storms/flooding/no power etc (had to get my pc fix by finding a friend with a pc and electricity).

Thanks again for you help, you have been great.

Download the file from here.
Unzip it and upload all the files (except for skins, images, tinymce, and install) to your webhost where you have the files there.
When uploading them if you get the question to overwrite the files select yes.
Gotou your website after you've uploaded all files and log in (If you have your browser set to remember your log in at your efiction site it will just ask if you are ready to upgrade. If not, log in)
It will ask if you are ready to update choose Yes (It will warn you should probably back up first)
It will update everything and you should be good to go.
But since I don't do bridging or any of the other stuff you guys are doing, I'm not sure if Olandir's files will work with the new updates or not.

In any case you probably will want to make a backup of your database before you proceed with everything above.

Thanks for the info babaca.

Confuzed/Olandir any new resolutions on the redirection prob once logging in?

I Spoke to my webhost they seem to think that the issue is due to the configuration of Efiction - SMF bridge is not proper.  They are willing to fix (for a price of course), so does anyone have any more suggestions on how to fix this before I hand over $$ to them.

Thanks!

Hil, I have not forgotten you...

I have been trying to work out a huge mod for SMF that will hopefully solve a few of our issues by adding a section into SMF that will allow us to more tightly integrate some things from efiction into the forum

Unfortunately I am not a coding guru so it is taking som etime.

I appologize for going silent for so long and now that 3.3 is out I need to upgrade and then keep working.

I have not been able to get the redirect thing to work consistantly and I am still working on that. But I don't think you should have to pay for it. It's just something that can be added to the code, so let me work on taht.

I hope that by creating a package that will do some of the more extensive changes in SMF that I've been trying to do it will help a lot of people but it may be a while before I'm finished because I still have work, my writing, my website, and all of my volunteer work that I do that is also keeping me busy

but I am trying to make progress on these issues as well... so if you are having problems reappling the changes or still need help just post here and I will see it.

Hi, Yes I'm still here Olandir and struggling with the redirect, nothing I try seems to work on my site πŸ˜₯  Maybe i have changed too much?  How are you going with it, any suggestions as yet?

Confuzed did you manage to get onto my site, sent you a couple of replies to your PM's but not sure if you got them  πŸ˜•

Anyhow, if either of you, or anyone has any suggestions I would be very grateful.

THANKS!

PS. Too scared to upgrade to 3.3 at the moment - so will leave that one for now  😳

You'll also notice that at the top of the header.php, I also add this

global $inefiction;
$inefiction = true;

I created the $inefiction variable to use in my SMF theme. It helps me in my index.template.php to let the script know when I'm inside efiction. That way the "Story Archive" button that i created will stay highlighted when I"m in efiction

I hate to bother you again, but could you tell me a little more about this part. I think I understand and can do the rest, but if I'm going to use the forum header, this would really come in handy.

EDIT Also, is there a way to make stories and reviews that were posted before adding this mod count towards the members post count?

I managed to get this mod to work with 3.3 on my test site. It took a few small changes and I don't use the shop mod, so I don't know if that is working or not, but it isn't too hard to make it work. The only problem I have is that when I submit a review, instead of my name linked back to my account as the reviewer, I get:

Title: Chapter 1 Reviewer: Anonymous Signed

The Anonymous is linked to the correct account, but it should be my user name. I don't know how to fix this part. Everything else works. If you can, I'd also like to know more about how you managed to get the correct button to highlight when you're in the efiction section of the site.

And, also, is there a way to make stories and reviews that were posted before adding this mod count towards the members post count?
